You must know the "front row effect"
? Several students were late for class and rushed into the teaching building. "Hurry up, there will be no seats in the back row!" "A student urged, several other students nodded and ran upstairs. I think this is one of the classic "quotations" in universities. If there are enough seats in the classroom, whether in class or in a meeting, we can always see such a scene: the last few rows are full, and there are few people in the first and second rows. It seems that both teachers and students are used to this phenomenon, because it does not hinder the order of classes or activities. When you meet a strict teacher, you will deliberately ask the students in the back row to sit in the front row, or "leave" the seats in the front row to the students who are late. I have done this kind of thing, because this kind of seat layout always gives people a feeling of not being positive enough, which I think will affect the effect of students' lectures and the mood of teachers.
In fact, teachers also have this habit. For example, in a college meeting, people who enter the venue pick the back seats first. Even if the back is full, some teachers would rather find a stool to sit in the back aisle than in the front row. Sometimes the leader will call the roll to let the people in the back row move to the front row, which often leads to a burst of laughter.
If we analyze this behavior orientation of "choosing the back row" psychologically, we can also find some of the same reasons. In fact, everyone has a psychological comfort zone, which is a familiar and controllable state, free from external pressure or interference. People will unconsciously choose such a state, which stems from people's instinctive demand for safety and natural consciousness of self-protection. In the comfort zone, people can certainly feel relaxed, comfortable and free, but at the same time, it also reduces the probability and ability to accept positive external stimuli.

In my senior year, I got the qualification of graduate school without taking an exam, so I have more free time to do part-time social work. When I held a job fair for a company, I was deeply impressed by the way they screened candidates.
There were about 50 students who came to the class that day, and they occupied about two-thirds of the seats in the classroom. After the lecture, they began to collect resumes. The HR supervisor told me to collect the resumes of students sitting in the first row and the second row first, then in the middle, and the resumes of students sitting in the last two rows and near the corner last. Resumes are therefore divided into three categories.
In the following data review, they first paid attention to the resumes submitted by the first two rows of students, giving priority to them, and staying as long as they met the basic conditions; Then review the resumes of the students sitting in the middle according to the selection criteria, and stay if the conditions are better. Finally, look at the resumes of the students sitting in the back row near the corner. If nothing stands out, just pass. In this way, the interview list will be confirmed soon.
The supervisor told me that he observed the students' admission status, and he was able to take the initiative to choose the students sitting in the front row first, which gave people a positive, active and enterprising feeling, while the students sitting in the far corner were not very impressed. Because there is not much difference between the professional background and education level of future candidates, enterprises want to find the qualities they value from the behavior habits of candidates.

In our life, it is normal to relax in the comfort zone. But in study and work, we should consciously break this "comfort". In class, you are used to sitting at the end every time. Even if you don't think it will affect your study, do you find yourself missing or giving up the opportunity to interact with your teacher again and again? What we often see is that the students gathered in the back row are not good enough in attention and initiative, and there are not a few people who doze off, watch their mobile phones and are distracted.
At work, you are always willing to be an unknown "corner person". In a meeting or activity, you are always just a dispensable listener. Your boss can't see you, and colleagues in the front row are in your way. While you avoid others' sight and choose to keep a low profile, opportunities and recognition also quietly avoid you.

Of course, this does not mean that you can achieve excellent grades and career success as long as you sit in the front row, but we do see that people with good grades and strong abilities will always appear in the front row. Apart from their personal qualifications and efforts, there is indeed a positive factor that contributed to their success. I call this factor the "front row effect".
How should this effect be explained? As early as the 1920s and 1930s, American scientists conducted experiments on the relationship among working conditions, social factors and production benefits in a factory. It is found that when a person is concerned or watched by the public, his study and work efficiency will be greatly improved. Based on this conclusion, we can understand that a proactive person chooses the "front row", so he gets more attention, which in turn promotes the improvement of his behavior efficiency, and the improvement of efficiency will make this person further concerned and recognized. This is why teachers prefer to interact with students in the front row, while enterprises choose candidates sitting in the front row.
This is the "front row effect", and you can get more opportunities and progress. If we can take the initiative to try a new environment, accept new challenges, step out of our comfort zone and go to the front row, you may feel pressure and anxiety, but at the same time, we will also gain your front row effect, new skills and new horizons.
