What is the application prospect of superconducting technology?

The main body of superconducting technology is superconducting materials, that is, conductive materials with no resistance or minimal resistance, and electric energy will hardly be lost in the process of flowing.

To realize superconductivity, it is often necessary to lower the conductor to a certain temperature (at least-100 degrees Celsius) before the resistance suddenly approaches zero. Materials with this property are called superconducting materials. In recent years, with the development of materials science, the properties of superconducting materials have been continuously optimized and the critical temperature of superconducting materials has been continuously improved. At present, although scientists have synthesized composite materials with superconducting properties at room temperature, this is limited to the laboratory. As far as its application prospect (function) is concerned, the following aspects are representative:

(1) Resistor-free lossless superconductivity was first considered to be used for long-distance transmission lines, but it is not possible at present because it is not an ordinary conductor and needs to be cooled down.

(2) Then, I think it is used in large-capacity electrical equipment, such as superconducting large-capacity generators. Generator coil superconductivity has no resistance and no loss, so it has extremely high power generation efficiency and greater power.

(3) It is also suitable for devices that need to generate strong magnetism, such as maglev trains and nuclear magnetic resonance devices. Because the generation of strong magnetism depends on the large current in the electromagnetic coil. Superconducting coil has super current and generates super magnetic field.

From a practical point of view, points (2) and (3) are the breakthrough points in the application of superconducting technology in the future.
