How to make a unique resume?
The following contents are compiled according to Mr. Xu Guoqing's speech on May 22nd 1999 at the job fair of CIIC 99 foreign enterprises.
Before we start
Any good company will receive hundreds of resumes every day (especially during the recruitment period). If there is no characteristic, it will not be noticed by others at all. Even if you are lucky enough to be noticed by others, you will lose valuable interview opportunities because of poor writing and being mistaken as "incompetent" by recruiters. Is it unfair?
This course will teach you how to surface in the "ocean" of resumes. If you win a valuable interview because of your successful resume writing, congratulations! Your job search has been more than half successful.
Step 1: resumes of various styles
1. Chinese style If both Chinese and English resumes are submitted together, it is recommended that you don't write political features in Chinese, because if you work in a foreign company, the less political background, the better, at least there is no need to let foreigners know. Personality is a subjective thing, and experienced recruiters will never believe anyone's own personality, because it is not a hard thing, unlike education and skills. If some people think that they want to recruit a more active person, they will write a cheerful personality on their resume. Some really believe that they are cheerful, and some think it is better to write cheerful, but it is not necessary. Height and weight, when applying for a foreign job, you don't need to write it, because it belongs to special privacy and doesn't seem to understand foreign culture.
2. Hong Kong-style resume writing skills books published in Hong Kong require writing age and marital status, and job seekers are also required to write salary status and expected salary in newspaper recruitment advertisements. These are privacy issues, but American resumes don't need this information.
3. British style is close to Hong Kong style, but personal information is not as much as Hong Kong style. It's long but not detailed, so I won't make too many comments here.
4. American-style international companies are more popular, and one page is our key reference style. There are also more than a dozen resume writing styles in the United States, and some books have published hundreds of samples. However, this style we introduced is quite popular in large American companies, such as investment banks, big consulting companies, industrial companies, manufacturing companies and marketing companies on Wall Street. At the same time, it also refers to the resume samples of three famous schools-Harvard Business School, Wharton Business School and Columbia Business School. The style is similar, and Harvard Business School is the main one here.
Step 2: Basic necessities
1. Mental state
How do recruiters identify resumes? Well written, of course. If the background is urgently needed by the company, it may be seen soon; If you don't write well, you lose it, and you can't keep it at all. Therefore, the psychological state of writing a resume should be: 1) strive for an interview; 2) at least save; 3) put an end to being "thrown".
Remember YRIS
Your resume is scanned, not read. ("YRIS"). On the one hand, the resume should be well written, on the other hand, the recruiter only scans the resume, which takes about 5 seconds at first, and then throws it away if it is not well written. First of all, you should understand two things: first, you should understand the nature of the recruiter's work. Second, be familiar with the writing format and professional writing. Besides, YRIS also points out that you should never write too much and keep it within one page, because no one will read your resume carefully.
Write affirmation
Any sentence in the resume may become a topic in the interview. You must write well. If you are not sure, don't write. Seek truth from facts and never exaggerate. Lying is the most taboo for foreign companies. Once you make him think that you are lying, you are disqualified from entering this company.
4. There are no spelling mistakes
Now word processing software has spell checking, so you really have no reason to spell it wrong, otherwise the employer will think that you don't even do the most basic things. Therefore, this is a totally unacceptable mistake.
5. Be careful of similar words
This is a mistake that can't be found by spelling check, so be especially careful. For example, a comrade majoring in economics should have written his major: economics, but he mistakenly wrote the mayor: economy and became the mayor in charge of the economy.
6. Avoid obvious grammatical mistakes
This is not to say that there are no grammatical mistakes, because English is not the mother tongue after all, and others can forgive a little mistake.
7. Ask a friend to have a look.
This is a very effective method. First, there are no mistakes in spelling, grammar and sentence patterns; Second, from the perspective of conception, is there a more appropriate expression? From another angle, others can often make some particularly good suggestions.
8. Write objectively or not?
Some people write, others don't. In fact, writing and not writing have their own advantages and disadvantages. What you wrote, of course, has a clear goal, and it is not aimed at this industry or this department, but it also limits the possibility of your development in other industries. For example, when applying to join a famous company, the graduates clearly wrote down the selected department, so if this department refuses to hire you and you seem to have to work in this department, you are likely to lose the opportunity to work in other departments. But if you don't write anything, the employer may refer to your background and the results of some tests and think that you are more suitable for other departments, so you may get new opportunities. Usually, the standard writing method of American resume is not to write.
9. Paper
The color and texture of paper are very important when looking for a job. You can choose high-grade beige steel, ancient paper and other resume-specific materials.
10. Specification
At least 80 grams, or about 100 grams. Paper used in many places in Beijing is sixty or seventy grams. This kind of paper is often very light and poor in texture, which will lose points.
Pay special attention to
