Dongtai, called Yan in ancient times, is also called Xixi, Ninghai, Dongting and Jianling for short. It is a national garden city, an excellent tourist city in China, one of the 20 central cities in Jiangsu Province and an important part of the coastal city axis.

Dongtai is located in the central coast of Jiangsu Province, in the north wing of the Yangtze River Delta, bordering the Yellow Sea in the east, Taizhou in the west, Nantong in the south and Yancheng in the north. Dongtai has a subtropical monsoon maritime climate with four distinct seasons and abundant rainfall. It grows rice, wheat and rape, and produces cotton, sericulture and fruit. Its specialties include hair embroidery, silk, seafood, tangerine peel wine, fish noodle soup, watermelon and hairy crabs.

Dongtai geographical environment:

1. Dongtai City has a flat terrain, with the ground elevation of 1.4m ~ 5. 1m, and most areas are between 2.6m and 4.6m. The old 204 national highway of Fangongdi runs through the north and south.

2. Dixi, a famous time-lapse depression, belongs to the eastern edge plain of Panwa in He Lixia, northern Jiangsu, with high northeast and low southwest.

3. Dongdi District is a coastal plain formed by sediment deposition after the Yellow River captured the Huaihe River. Dongsha Island, about 50 kilometers east of the coastline, has been above the zero line, and it is the sediment from the Yangtze River, Jianghuai River and Huaihe River.
