Tongxiang City is located in Hangjiahu Plain in the north of Zhejiang Province, with geographical coordinates of 30 28' ~ 30 47' north latitude and12017' ~120 39' east longitude. It is adjacent to Xiuzhou District of Jiaxing City in the east, Haining City in the south, Deqing County and Yuhang District of Hangzhou City in the north, Nanxun District of Huzhou City in the northwest and Wujiang District of Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province in the north.

Tongxiang City is a part of the Yangtze River Delta Plain, with low terrain and no hills. Generally speaking, it is high in the southeast and low in the northwest, slightly inclined to Taihu Lake, with an average elevation of 5.3 meters.

The soil in Tongxiang is river, ocean and lake sediments, belonging to paddy soil and fluvo-aquic soil. The fertile soil is suitable for planting rice and cash crops. The city's arable land is 38,500 hectares, accounting for 52.8% of the city's total land area. Among them, paddy field accounts for 310.2 million hectares and dry land accounts for 7,293 hectares, accounting for 8 1% and 1.9% of cultivated land respectively. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal flows through the city boundary, with a total length of 4 1.77km.

There are 46 backbone rivers in the city, most of which intersect the canal vertically and are distributed in a network. The rivers connected with Tongxiang section of the Canal mainly include Jinniutang, Baimatang, Kangjingtang, Chang 'an Tang, Hanshantang, Ling 'an Tang, Lamb Tang, Xishengdai Tang and Changshan River, with a total length of 240 1km.

The total water area is 46.3 square kilometers, accounting for 6.73% of the city's total area, and the river network density is 3.3 kilometers/square kilometer. It is a typical Jiangnan water network plain.

Tongxiang is a typical subtropical monsoon climate. Warm and humid, with four distinct seasons, abundant rain and sunshine. It is characterized by rainy spring, hot summer, dry autumn and cold winter.
