In the 5th year of Yuan Dynasty (AD 5), Emperor Han Ping established Zhaoyang and other countries.

1February, 952 16, Shaodong County was separated from the original Shaoyang County, and it was named after being located in the east of Shaoyang City, belonging to Shaoyang Special (Ground) Area.

1977 belongs to Lianyuan area.

1983 changed to shaoyang city.
