Mencius' words are always big, empty and correct, but they can never solve practical problems. Mencius said many wonderful quotations, such as "wealth can't be lewd, poverty can't be shaken, and power can't be bent", "I want both health and justice, and I can have the best of both worlds, even those who lay down their lives for righteousness can't. As people's pursuit of moral cultivation, this is undoubtedly a good benchmark. However, in the governance and competition with the country, it is never possible to talk only about justice and benefit. Especially in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the state did not fight for justice, but for finance, military and comprehensive strength.

In Confucianism, righteousness and benefit can never be unified. Mencius was so extreme that even the word "Li" was not allowed to be mentioned. But Yasheng asked ordinary people to be saints, and I'm afraid no one would buy his account. It seems that only Mohism has practiced it in history. But after the second generation of Mohism, it declined or changed, and the "fundamentalists" of Mohism disappeared. However, the dark clouds in the sky gradually dispersed, and it rained cats and dogs, and the seedlings turned green. In this case, who can stop?

Yi said: By this year, Yasheng is 53 years old, and his speech is still out of tune. Wang Xiang just succeeded to the throne this year. In the past few decades, wars have continued. Wei bullies others, bullies others. The country was exhausted, the army suffered heavy losses and the people were in dire straits.

330 years ago, Qin attacked Wei and besieged Jiaocheng and Quwo. Wei Shaoliang and Hexi were ceded to Qin.

In the first 329 years, Qin attacked Wei, crossed the Yellow River, occupied Fenyin, Pixian and Jiaocheng.

In the first 328 years, Qin attacked Wei and captured Puyang.

He longed for peace, so he asked Yasheng, "How can we get peace?" . But Mencius' answer made people feel as if they had fallen into the fog and didn't know what they wanted to express. Wait until the world is unified. Then how do you wait? Who will unify? He replied, "People who don't like killing people can." . So, who doesn't like killing people? Interestingly, a hundred years later, the whole world was unified, and the person who unified the world was called Qin Shihuang. I really can't say that he is a person who doesn't like killing people.

We can't help asking why what Confucius and Mencius advocated did not appear in any country during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, but was made into a statue in the Western Han Dynasty. The reason may be that the world has changed and unified, and people don't need to think about it anymore. This set of things is the best way for rulers to care for their souls. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, "having food" and "being able to fight" were the last word, so we said something ugly among governors and did something ugly.
