The Second Post-war Merger of Nantong College (1945- 1949)

1945, with the victory of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the teachers and students of Nantong College were ready to move back to Nantong, and a back-to-school office was set up at the headquarters of Nantong College to take over the devastated school buildings and school furniture.

Nantong University Agricultural Science and Textile Science (1946- 1949)

1in the autumn of 946, due to the shortage of school buildings, only two classes in the Department of Textile Industry and one class in the Department of Dyeing and Chemistry went back to Nantong to attend classes, and the rest of the second, third and fourth grade students could only attend classes in the temporary school buildings in Shanghai.

1947 In the spring, the second students of Agricultural Science and Textile Science and Technology University moved back to Tangzha, Nantong for classes, while the second students of Agricultural Science, Animal Husbandry and Textile Science and Technology University stayed in Shanghai for classes.

During the period of 1948, the situation in Nantong was unstable due to the civil war. Except for two newly recruited classes, the rest of the students moved to Shanghai for classes.

1August 949, Nantong and Shanghai were liberated. Hundreds of people in agricultural science and textile science braved the heat and moved back to Nantong by land and water. In September, the Department of Agricultural Economics of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences was merged into Zhejiang University.

Since War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression 1938 moved out, all subjects of Nantong College have been displaced from place to place 12 years. According to Zhang, the grandson of Zhang Jian, a textile major, "When the ship" Dada "loaded with all the teachers and students of the school sailed past Langshan and approached Nantong Port, almost everyone was in tears".

Nantong medical college (1945)

1945, after the Japanese army surrendered, the national Jiangsu Medical College was ready to move to Zhenjiang, and the private Nantong College reported that it was required to restore medical services at the original site. After the report was approved by the Ministry of Education of the National Government, the former medical teachers and students of Nantong College boarded the ship from Chongqing Wharf and went all the way south to Nantong.

In order to run the medical department well, Zhang Jingli, then the managing director of Nantong College (the son of Zhang Peng, the first president of the former Medical College), took out 654.38+06 billion francs from Sheng Da Cotton Mill to buy Jiangbei Hospital at that time, enrich the medical department and rebuild the affiliated hospital.

1946, the medical department officially resumed enrollment.

This is the second merger of agricultural science, medicine and textile science of private Nantong College/private Nantong University.

1946 Nantong college enrolled 35 students in agriculture, medicine and textile, and the number of applicants was 1332. The school has a first-class volleyball team and a badminton team. Students have their own newspapers and magazines. They play and sing. Some of them started rehearsing Cao Yu's famous plays Thunderstorm and Yuan Ye in their freshman year. According to Zhang (1946), he also played the role of harmony in the play.

As can be seen from the handouts and test papers kept by alumnus Cao Chengsheng, Nantong College was bilingual, with many foreign teachers, and the students' English level was very good. Although there were no CET-4 and CET-6, a large number of graduates from Nantong College went abroad to study. Huang Li, a textile alumnus, still keeps Nantong College's graduation guest book. His graduation certificate is designed and produced by himself, which counts as his undergraduate graduation thesis (design).

At that time, the graduation yearbook of textile agricultural science was beautifully done, from the first principal, the evolution of the school, the introduction of teachers and the photos of classmates. These are all designed and made by the students themselves. Moreover, there are some small advertisements for products, so that students can earn some money and start their own businesses. According to the photos of that year, during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Nantong college students took to the streets to publicize the great significance of the War. 1950, including Zhang, more than half of the students in the Textile Department of Nantong University graduated ahead of schedule, and responded to the call of the country and went to the Northeast with great enthusiasm to support the construction of new China.
