Brief introduction of Xuanzang's hometown

Speaking of the Tang Priest in the Journey to the West, everyone knows. The prototype of Tang Priest is Xuanzang in Tang Dynasty. Xuanzang, a monk in the Tang Dynasty, was born in Chenhe Village, about 1 km north of Gai Town, yanshi city. Xuanzang's hometown, 40 kilometers southeast of Luoyang, is located in the north of 207 national highway, and there is a Phoenix Valley under the Phoenix Mountain in yanshi city. Chenhe Village in Azuma Tani is from the Tang Dynasty.

Xuanzang was born on, and there are many records in the history books. However, in yanshi city Village, Xuanzang's hometown, Chen's descendants have been handed down from generation to generation, and Xuanzang's birthday is commemorated every year on the ninth day of the third lunar month. But there is also a saying that Xuanzang's birthday is on the fourteenth day of the first lunar month. After consulting some scholars, it is generally believed that the inheritance of Chen's descendants should be based on the fact that there is no historical record, so Xuanzang's birthday anniversary is chosen on the ninth day of the third lunar month.

Sui Renshou was born in Chenhe Village, northeast of Nangou Town, Yanshi County in 602. The village is surrounded by mountains and rivers and has beautiful scenery. Xuanzang's father, Chen Hui, was a good Buddha all his life, and his second brother, Chen Su, was sent to Luoyang Jingtu Temple by his father as a monk. Chen Yi, who is naturally intelligent, has been exposed to Buddhist scriptures since childhood and has developed a strong interest in Buddhism.

At the age of eleven, Xuanzang entered Jingtu Temple with Shi and became a monk, named Xuanzang. Not satisfied with the Buddhist knowledge he learned in Luoyang, he went to Chang 'an to visit famous teachers, consult scriptures, study classics, read many books, and found that Buddhist scriptures were different and not completely consistent. Therefore, he decided to go to India, the birthplace of Buddhism, to explore the mysteries of Buddhism.

In the third year of Tang Zhenguan (629), 27-year-old Xuanzang embarked on a journey to the West to learn from the scriptures. In the following five years, Xuanzang had a full understanding of the origin of Buddhism. During this period, he missed his motherland. In the seventeenth year of Zhenguan in the Tang Dynasty (643), he set out with 657 Buddhist scriptures and relics, and returned to his hometown in the nineteenth year of Zhenguan.

From then on, I began to sort out and translate the classics I brought back from Hongfu Temple. Emperor Taizong specially summoned Xuanzang to commend him for taking the trouble to go to the West to learn from the scriptures, and built the Dajigong Hall for him in Chang 'an, which became a hall for Xuanzang to translate scriptures. In 9 years, he translated 1335 volumes and wrote "The Tale of the Western Regions of Datang", which is an important document for the study of ancient India, Nepal, Pakistan and Central Asia and has contributed to the cultural exchange between China and India.

Made great contributions. In the process of giving lectures, translating and spreading Buddhist thoughts, Xuanzang founded Ci 'en Sect (also known as Fa Xiang Sect) and became a sect of Mahayana Buddhism. His hard work spirit and outstanding achievements are respected by people. In his hometown Chenhe Village, the Tang Priest Temple was built in the Phoenix Ridge in the upper reaches of Majian River. Inside and outside the temple, there are towering figures and lush trees. After 1000 years of vicissitudes, this temple still exists. It can be seen that the well-preserved hall was rebuilt during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. There are also several stone tablets in the courtyard, which embodies people's deep memory of Xuanzang.

1986, the people of Yanshi county erected a monument for Xuanzang's hometown to record Xuanzang's deeds.
