What is the origin of the name of Liudu Bridge in Wuhan?
Liudu Bridge is located at the intersection of Zhongshan Avenue and Sanmin Road in Hankou. Originally named Liudu Bridge, it is also called Liudu Bridge, Mung Bean Bridge, Liudao Bridge, Liudou Bridge and Ludu Bridge. There is more than one source. It is usually considered as one of more than 30 crossing bridges on the Daiyu River, which became a river more than 300 years ago. At that time, Hankou was surrounded by water, and residents often suffered from floods. In the eighth year of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1635), Hanyang Prefecture passed the judgment.
Chang Yuan built a dike in today's Chang Di Street, and the place where the soil was taken sank into the river and was surrounded by belts. Many bridges have been built to facilitate traffic. However, it was verified that its name originated from the original Dadu Temple nearby, hence the name Liudu Bridge. This bridge disappeared with the river in the late Qing Dynasty, but its name, as a general name in this area, has been passed down to this day. Now, there is a small street on the west side of the southern section of Sanmin Road, which is only 54 meters long. It used to be a bridgehead passage, but now it is also called Liuduqiao Street.
