Tongzhou District, Beijing is located in the southeast of Beijing, at the northern end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is 36.5 kilometers wide from east to west and 48 kilometers long from north to south, covering an area of 906 square kilometers. It borders Chaoyang District and Daxing District in the west, Shunyi District, sanhe city in Hebei Province, Dachang Hui Autonomous County and Xianghe County across the Chaobai River in the north, and wuqing district in Tianjin and Langfang in Hebei Province in the south.

Evolution of Organizational Division in Tongzhou District

At the end of 1948, the whole territory of Tongxian County was liberated. Tongzhou City was originally located in Chengguan, Tongxian County, and the Tongxian People's Government moved to Zhangjiawan.

1949 Tongzhou City was changed to Tongxian Town, which is the resident of Tongxian District.

Tongxian Town revoked 1953 1 1 in June, and established Tongzhou City, which was managed by Tongxian District, and retained the resident of Tongxian District, also belonging to Tongxian District.

On March 7th 1958, Tongzhou, Tongxian County was transferred to Beijing. On April 28 of the same year, Tongxian County was revoked, and the original five counties of Jixian, Pinggu, Sanhe, Dachang and Xianghe were included in Tangshan District, Miyun County and Huairou County were included in Chengde District, and Gu 'an County was included in Tianjin District.

After Tongxian and Tongzhou were merged into Beijing, they were renamed Tongzhou District and Tongxian in February 1960. 1April, 1997, Tongxian County was abolished and Tongzhou District was established.
