Guizhou Water Conservancy and Electric Power School was founded in 1956, and 1959 was upgraded to Guizhou Water Conservancy and Electric Power College, which belongs to Guizhou Provincial Water Resources Department. It is the only national key secondary vocational school in Guizhou Province and the national secondary vocational education demonstration and construction school. The school is located at the foot of Dongshan Mountain in Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province, with beautiful scenery and convenient transportation. It covers an area of 53,000 square meters and has a building area of 62,000 square meters. In the next five years, it is planned to establish Guizhou Water Conservancy and Electric Power Vocational College.

The school has 24 majors in four departments: Water Conservancy and Building Engineering Department, Electrical Engineering Department, Engineering Survey Department and Business and Tourism Department.
