The research team of South China University of Technology developed rapid typing nucleic acid detection technology.

It is reported that this study developed a detection method based on RT-LAMP to identify the level of single base mutation. Two pairs of specific primers were designed for the conserved region of SARS-CoV-2N gene and R203M region of Delta-specific mutation. When the conservative threshold of CqR203M/Cq is 1.80, COVID-19 δ mutant and wild strains can be quickly detected and distinguished. After clinical verification, the classification accuracy reached 100%.

The method realizes the identification of Delta mutant in about 1 hour and the real-time monitoring of novel coronavirus infection. It can be detected by conventional fluorescent quantitative PCR detection platform, which is expected to provide a powerful means for rapid shunt of suspected patients with coronavirus pneumonia-19 and accurate typing of Delta strain.

According to reports, the research results were jointly completed by the team of Professor Gu Bing from the Laboratory of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital affiliated to South China University of Technology and the team of Professor Zhang Lei from the School of Biological Sciences and Engineering, and published in the authoritative journal Emerging Infectious Diseases in the global infection field. Gu Bing said that the research began in June, 20021year, and the research results were recently published due to many factors such as the research cycle and the use of manuscripts in journals.
