What do you mean by long positions and short positions in Hong Kong stocks?

A good position, also known as a long position, is represented by L, which is equivalent to the long position we are talking about here, and can be roughly understood as holding shares or holding call options. Short, also known as short, is represented by S, which can be roughly understood as shorting or holding put options.

Good positions exceeding 5% should be disclosed, but there is no separate requirement for short positions. However, if a shareholder holds a good position of more than 5%, then no matter how many short positions he holds, it should be disclosed at the same time.

On the whole, the Stock Exchange has a protective attitude towards short position holders, and short sellers are invisible unless they hold more than 5% of good positions at the same time. Short positions are generally disclosed every Friday, but the Stock Exchange only discloses the total number of short positions, and there is no specific list for enquiry.

In other words, if a person establishes a large number of short positions on Monday, theoretically, he can only see them after the close of next Friday, and he can only see the total number without seeing the specific names. The disclosure format is shown in the figure below.

Securities lending is more complicated. According to the disclosure rules, borrowed securities have the obligation to repay in the future, so they are listed as short positions. If you lend your own securities, it is listed according to the good position, but the nature of the good position has changed, from "direct shareholding" to "lending shares".
