Wuzhou used to be the secretariat department of Jiaozhou, but now why is it only a prefecture-level city?
Wuzhou's position in history is much higher than Nanning, Guilin and Guigang. Nanning (Yongzhou) was the political center of Guangxi in Tang Dynasty, Song Dynasty and Republic of China. Guilin (Guilin House) was also the political center of Guangxi in Ming, Qing and Republic of China. Guigang (Bushan County, Guilin County) was also the political center of Guangxi in Qin and Han Dynasties.
Wuzhou has never been the seat of Guangxi in history, but it is the political center of Guangdong and Guangxi, and the political center of the whole Lingnan area. Naturally, the political center of Guangdong, Guangxi and Lingnan is much higher than that of Guangxi alone.
1. Wuzhou was once under the jurisdiction of the secretariat of Jiaozhou in the Han Dynasty;
There was no administrative division of "Jiaozhou Secretariat Department" in the early Han Dynasty, and Lingnan area in the early Han Dynasty was not directly under the jurisdiction of the Han Dynasty, but was a vassal state of South Vietnam. Until the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, there was a rebellion of Prime Minister Lu Jia in South Vietnam. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty set up nine counties in the former South Vietnam, namely Nanhai County, Yulin County, Cangwu County, Hepu County, Jiaozhi County, Jiuzhen County, Rinan County, Boer County and Zhuya County. And above 9 counties, it is under the jurisdiction of the secretariat of Jiaozhou.
The office of the secretariat of the Cross-toe Department is located in Guangxin County and Cangwu County, which is now Wuzhou. This is the period when Wuzhou was the political center of the whole Lingnan area in history. At that time, the jurisdiction of JIAOZHOU secretariat included Guangdong Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, Hainan Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Vietnam, ***2 provinces and 2 special zones, 1 autonomous region, 1 country. It can be seen how lofty the five continents of the Han Dynasty are.
2. Wuzhou was once the residence of the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi in the Ming Dynasty;
Anyone familiar with the history of Ming and Qing dynasties knows that the so-called "Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi" is one of the nine officials with the highest power and status in the imperial court. The post of "Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi" was first set up in the Ming Dynasty. According to historical records, "there were governors in Guangdong and Guangxi from the beginning of the rebellion between Xunyao and Wuyao." This shows that the establishment of the post of "Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi" in the Ming Dynasty was precisely to suppress the peasant uprising in Datengxia, Guangxi. Because of the need to suppress the peasant uprising in Datengxia, Guangxi, the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi entered Wuzhou for the first time in the Ming Dynasty. Because Wuzhou is just in the middle of Guangdong and Guangxi, and it is close to Zhou Xun House, where the peasant uprising in Datengxia is located (Datengxia is located in the lower reaches of Qianjiang River, about 8 kilometers northwest of Guiping City, and is the largest and longest canyon in Guangxi). 3. Wuzhou was once the residence of the Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi in Qing Dynasty;
Although the post of "Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi" began in the Ming Dynasty, it was carried forward and reached its peak in the Qing Dynasty. During the Qing Dynasty, the official position of "Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi" was formally established. The basic duties of the "Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi" were to be responsible for "governing the army and the people, governing the civil and military affairs, checking officials and repairing politics" in Guangdong and Guangxi. As a result, the "Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi" became one of the nine high-ranking government officials in the Qing Dynasty, along with the governors of Zhili, Liangjiang, Huguang, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Yunnan, Guizhou and Northeast China.
Since the Ming Dynasty, the Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi has been based in Wuzhou. During the Qing Dynasty, the governors of Guangdong and Guangxi sometimes moved to Zhaoqing, Guangzhou, Hepu and other places because of the needs of the government. The governor of Guangdong and Guangxi spent most of his time in Wuzhou. It can be seen that in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Wuzhou, as the political center of Guangdong and Guangxi, was still in a lofty position, not as ordinary as it was in modern times.
2. Why is Wuzhou, which has a high position in history, only a prefecture-level city now?
1. The provincial administrative divisions in modern society are the first-level administrative divisions;
Modern society is very different from ancient society, especially in the division of administrative divisions. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were governors under the jurisdiction and restraint of provincial administrative divisions such as Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, Governor of Huguang and Governor of Liangjiang. It is precisely because of this that Wuzhou has the opportunity to become the residence of the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
In modern society, provincial administrative divisions are directly national administrative divisions, and there is no other administrative division to govern and control them. Therefore, in modern society, Wuzhou naturally lost its lofty position as the political center of Guangdong and Guangxi. Although Wuzhou, as the center of Guangdong and Guangxi, has not changed, it is impossible for modern society to set up administrative divisions or positions similar to "Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi" or "Cross-toed secretariat".
2. Wuzhou is too east to be the capital of modern Guangxi;
In fact, at the beginning of the founding of New China, Wuzhou was considered as the capital of Guangxi. At that time, the capital cities of Guangxi were selected as Guilin, Nanning, Liuzhou and Wuzhou. Guilin was the capital of Guangxi in the former Republic of China, and the Kuomintang was too powerful to choose Guilin. Although Liuzhou has a good economic foundation and strong industry, its mountainous terrain is not ideal as the capital of Guangxi.
Although Wuzhou has a good economic foundation and good terrain, it is too eastward, not in the center of Guangxi or almost in the middle. And Wuzhou City is too close to Guangdong, and Guangdong Province is only one foot away. So Wuzhou can't be the capital of Guangxi, and finally the capital of Guangxi will fall to Nanning.
In fact, from the end of 1949 to the beginning of 1950, the provincial capital of Guangxi was temporarily stationed in Wuzhou for a period of time, and the provincial government of Guangxi was temporarily stationed in Wuzhou for a period of time. Later, after the capital of Guangxi was officially identified as Nanning, it moved to Nanning. Maybe the old Wuzhou people will know this historical mystery.
3. Wuzhou's strength can not meet the requirements of sub-provincial cities, and it can only be downgraded to prefecture-level cities:
Wuzhou still wants to compete with the provincial capital of Guangxi, which is naturally hopeless. Is it possible for sub-provincial cities to settle for second best? This is naturally impossible. Adjacent to Guangdong Province, although there are also two sub-provincial cities, namely Guangzhou and Shenzhen. However, people in Guangzhou and Shenzhen are world-class metropolises and one of the richest cities in the world, with GDP exceeding one trillion every year. Wuzhou is naturally incomparable with Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and there is not even a sub-provincial city in Guangxi at present. Even Nanning, the capital of the autonomous region, can't meet the requirements of sub-provincial cities at present, so we can only look forward to it.
In modern society, there are no political centers like Lingnan and Guangdong and Guangxi. Wuzhou has become the capital of Guangxi, but it can't compare with Guilin and Nanning. Wuzhou, the second best sub-provincial city, is far from meeting the requirements. Therefore, Wuzhou, once the secretariat of Jiaozhou in the Han Dynasty and the seat of the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, can only retreat to prefecture-level cities in modern times. I hope that Wuzhou in the future will work hard to shine in the economy and strive to become the economic center of eastern Guangxi.
