Putuo Mountain, formerly known as Meicen Mountain, was named after Meifu's monasticism here in the late Western Han Dynasty. In the fourth year of Tang Xiantong (863), the Japanese monk Hua Hui invited the Guanyin statue of Wutai Mountain to return to China. He crossed the Lotus Sea and was caught in a storm.
