General situation of Urumqi city

Urumqi's rich and vast Xinjiang is a treasure of China. The ancient and beautiful Urumqi is a bright pearl at the foot of Tianshan Mountain.

In the first century BC, Wu, a commander in chief, was once stationed here in the Western Regions Hufu established by the Western Han Dynasty. In the prosperous Tang Dynasty, in order to further strengthen the economic and cultural exchanges between the East and the West and promote the prosperity and development of the new road in the north of the Silk Road, in 640 AD, the Tang government set up the Beiting Dadu Protection Center in the northeast of Urumqi, and in 1755 AD, the Qing government set up a garrison in Jiujiawan Ming ancient city in Urumqi, which was officially named as Urumqi, and it was renamed as "Dihua" in 1763 AD. In 1884, Xinjiang was established as the capital, and Urumqi was designated as the provincial capital, which was promoted to Dihua. At that time, this new grassland border town was called "Jiangnan beyond the Great Wall", and there was a prosperous scene of "ten thousand fireworks steaming warm clouds and Tianshan ancient ice selling out". In the Qing Dynasty, famous politicians and literati such as Lin Zexu, Hong, Liu E all lived or stayed in Urumqi, leaving many well-known poems.

The seven districts and one county are Tianshan District, Shayibake District, Toutunhe District, Shuimogou District, Xinshi District, Dabancheng District, Dongshan District and urumqi county. With a total area of10.2 million square kilometers and a population of more than 2 million, the city has established modern enterprises such as steel, coal, machinery, electric power, petrochemical industry, cotton and wool textile and leather manufacturing. Urumqi is also rich in resources. The coal reserves are 9 billion tons, with natural salt lakes in the southeast and mineral deposits such as oil, iron, manganese and phosphorus in the northern edge. There are many wild animals and plants. These unique resources provide very favorable material conditions for the development of Urumqi.
