Why don't rural teachers want to be class teachers?

According to a report on July 9, rural teachers are unwilling to be class teachers. Due to the low income of rural teachers, some teachers regard work as a sideline, which leads to the lack of authority in the economic status of rural class teachers. At the same time, rural teachers are afraid of accidents, and rural teachers eat "big pot rice" in the management system, which leads to low enthusiasm. In addition, students in the new era are difficult to manage, parents do not attach importance to education, and teachers generally panic, which also affects the enthusiasm of rural teachers. The report believes that the problem of class teachers in rural areas is ultimately a problem of urban-rural gap, which needs the joint efforts of the government, schools and individuals to change the urban-rural gap in order to fundamentally solve it.

The head teacher is of great significance in the management of primary education and the growth of students. 20 15 The National Survey Report on Satisfaction of Basic Education released by China Academy of Educational Sciences and National Education Research Alliance stated that the satisfaction index of teachers in cities, towns and rural areas decreased in turn. Studies have shown that in rural teachers' job burnout, class teachers have become the hardest hit, and more than half of them are subjectively unwilling to continue to work as class teachers. The job burnout level of township class teachers is significantly higher than that of county and city class teachers.

These phenomena are consistent with the author's field investigation for many years. Then, why don't rural teachers want to be class teachers? What do they think of this phenomenon themselves?

Last May, the author spent half a month in a rural junior high school in a central province, trying to answer these questions based on previous research and accumulation.

Cai Xi Middle School is located in the urban-rural fringe of Kangning City, a county-level city in the central province. Cai Town, where it is located, has 15 administrative villages, which is one of the important local commodity grain producing areas under the planned economy system. There is another junior middle school under the jurisdiction of the town, namely Pingshui Middle School. In recent years, due to the sharp decline in the size of students, it has merged with primary schools to form a nine-year compulsory education school with more than 100 students.

In order to stabilize junior high school students, Corning unified the sixth grade under the jurisdiction of junior high school, so the local junior high school is a four-year system. Cai Xi Middle School is no exception. In 20 14, there were 460 students in Cai Xi middle school. With the strengthening of the policy of balanced enrollment in senior high school entrance examination, the number of rural junior high school students has rebounded slightly. In 20 17, there were 500 students in Cai Xi middle school. At present, there are more than 30 middle school teachers in Cai Xi, most of whom are over 35 years old, and all of them have university degrees. Those who have the first degree in normal school are also graduates of old normal schools before the new century.

From time to time in rural schools, because teachers don't want to be class teachers, school leaders personally serve as class teachers, and so does Cai Xi Middle School. There are 1 1 classes in this school, but the head teachers of four classes are also school leaders-the vice-principal in charge of teaching, the chairman of the trade union, the director of the Political and Educational Affairs Office, and the stationmaster of the audio-visual education station. In addition to the division of school affairs and the work of the part-time class teacher, the four of them have to bear a considerable amount of teaching workload-8 to 10 classes per week, and the teaching workload of the other class teachers and teachers is about 13 classes per week.

According to the relevant national policies, there will be a little subsidy for being a class teacher. In the author's field investigation, some teachers in Cai Xi middle school also believe that the position of head teacher is "very good at training management ability", "able to put his own ideas into practice" and "more important in the hearts of students and parents than teachers in other disciplines".

But in reality, the position of head teacher has become a "hot potato".
