Emperor Kangxi's summer resort in Chengde

Chengde mountain resort, also known as Chengde Palace or Jehol Palace, is the largest royal garden in China. The main purpose of building villas is to consolidate the unity of multi-ethnic countries and resist Russian expansion. It is one of the important palaces that the Qing emperors visited the north every year.

The villa was built in the 42nd year of Kangxi (1703) and took 87 years to build. The villa is divided into two parts: the palace area and the garden area, in which the garden area is divided into lake area, plain area and mountain area.

Palace area

There are four groups of buildings in the south of the villa: Gong Zheng, Songhezhai, Wanhe, Song Feng and Dongfang. According to the feudal etiquette system, the main palace is divided into two parts: the former dynasty and the later dynasty.

The main hall of the previous dynasty was the Lianbo Jingcheng Hall, all built of nanmu. When the Qing emperor was in the villa, major ceremonies were held here. Sizhi Bookstore is a place to rest and change clothes before the Qing Emperor's ceremony. It usually convenes ministers to handle government affairs.

Behind the bed, there are mainly cigarette houses and Yunshan holiday building. Yanlang Hall is the emperor's bedroom, with a throne in the middle. Sinnu Pavilion is the emperor's bedroom, with a back passage behind the bed; Dongnuange is a place where the emperor and his ministers discuss state affairs. Yunshan Holiday Building is the place where the Queen enjoys the beauty of lakes and mountains. It doesn't take the stairs, but takes the rockery as the ramp.

Out of the main palace gate is Wanhe Songfeng Hall, which is the place where the Qing emperors read the throne and read books. On the east side of the main hall is Song Hezhai, originally used by Empress Dowager Cixi, which looks like a humorous garden in the Summer Palace. The East Palace, located in the easternmost part of the palace area, was originally the place where the Qing emperor held a celebration banquet, but it was burned down by the Japanese army in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

Yuanjing district

There are three islands in the lake, Huanbi in the west, Ruyizhou in the north, moonlight and river sound in the east, all of which are connected by dikes and bridges. Huanbi Island is quiet and elegant, and was originally a prince's reading room. The Lingcai Ferry in the north of the island is the ferry where maids go to collect Lingcai by the lake. There are many ancient buildings in Ruyi Island, among which Yanshen Pavilion was the place where the emperor handled the affairs of state affairs before the establishment of the main palace. Shuifang Bixiu is the place where Emperor Qianlong celebrated his mother's birthday. There is Violet Island in the north of Ruyi Prefecture, and there is a misty rain building on it. You can go to the Jinwen Museum along the long lake, which is one of the seven libraries in the Qing Dynasty.

From Wenjinge eastbound, you can reach the plain area. The "Wanshuyuan" in the area is towering with ancient trees and lush vegetation. There is a luxurious yurt in the center, which is a place for banquets and entertainment when the Qing emperor came to the villa. From the Jehol Spring to the south, you can reach Jinshan Island, where pavilions can see the scenery in the south of the Yangtze River. Southbound along the lake, you can reach Yueguang Jiangsheng Island, where the emperor reads, enjoys the moon and listens to spring. Further on is the "Shui Xin Pavilion", which is an important passage between the Palace District and the Lake District. Standing on the waterside pavilion, you can see the beautiful scenery around you.

The west and north of the villa are mountainous areas, where the peaks are strange, the trees are lush, and the climate is very cool, which is 4-5℃ lower than that of Chengde city. Come here to experience the fun of summer vacation. There are also wonders such as Banghammer Mountain and Toad Stone.
