Oranges and pomelos hang in the wilderness, while ancient houses draw dragons and snakes.
Clouds give birth to empty walls, and rivers sound like white sand.
A long time ago, Yu Dayu used four means of transportation to control floods, cut stone walls and dredge waterways, so that the water from the Yangtze River flowed into the sea.

Yu Miao is a five-character poem written by Du Fu, a great poet in the Tang Dynasty, in the first year of Yongtai (765). The first couplet of this poem points out the place and time of the tour, which leads to the allusion of Dayu's water control; Zhuan Xu described the scenery in Dayu Temple from far to near; Neck couplets describe the environment and atmosphere around Dayu Temple, where the clouds are lingering, the sound of the river below the mountain is deafening, and a magnificent scene is a metaphor for Dayu's contribution to water control; William expressed his feelings through the scenery and remembered Dayu's great achievements in water control. The whole poem is full of ups and downs in emotion and strong brushwork, which eulogizes Dayu's great achievements in water control and expresses the author's thoughts and feelings of remembering heroes and patriotism.

Dayu Temple is located in an open ravine, and the rustling autumn wind is accompanied by the setting sun. There are many oranges hanging in desolate temples, and dragons, snakes, tigers and leopards are painted on the walls of ancient houses. The transpiration on the wall of the house fills the air, and the deep river rolls white sand waves. Dayu dug mountains and built roads for four years, and finally surrendered to Longjiao in the March 8th area.
Make an appreciative comment
This poem deeply praised the achievements of the ancient emperor Dayu, and highlighted his hope for the emperors of the Tang Dynasty, hoping that they would work hard to govern and create brilliant achievements.
"The temple in the mountain is empty, and the autumn wind sets the sun." The first link points out the location of Yu Temple and the surrounding landscape; Jade Temple is located in an isolated mountain. The bleak autumn wind and the afterglow of sunset make it more desolate than loneliness. When readers break the order of poems and reconstruct the scene of Yu Temple in imagination, they are surprised to find that Yu Temple is old and vigorous, desolate and resilient. Although the autumn wind is strong, the setting sun is still shining, but it is obvious in the temple's old age, especially solemn. This is the poet's real feeling at this time, that is, admiration and nostalgia, so the poet began to visit this ancient temple.
"The wild court hangs orange pomelo, and the ancient house draws dragons and snakes." This couplet is about the scenery in the temple. The temple is a "deserted courtyard" and an "ancient house", which looks very shabby, but the poet unexpectedly found that the tall orange pomelo trees in the courtyard were covered with huge fruits; The walls of the house are painted with flying dragons and snakes, which makes the deserted palace and ancient houses full of vitality, the courtyard is no longer desolate, and the ancient houses are no longer dilapidated. If readers simply interpret this couplet literally, they will see the natural landscape mentioned above, but if readers look through ancient books, they will find that the poet used Dayu's allusion here: Dayu was loved by the people for his water control, and he drove away the dragon and snake, which not only benefited the creatures, but also blessed them. When readers understand these allusions, the vibrant natural scenery becomes an admiration for the heroic deeds of ancient emperors, and the realm of poetry is also improved. It can be seen that the poet combined Dayu's allusions with the real scene in front of him, so that the scenery description contained allusions and he could not see that he was using allusions, that is, the scenery and allusions were integrated. Therefore, predecessors praised Du Fu's couplets as a model of "talking about things" and praised Du Fu's brushwork as "eternal stunts".
"Clouds hiss at the blue walls and rivers hiss at the white beaches." This couplet is about the scenery outside the temple. On the mountain where the Yu Temple is located, the white clouds flow as if teasing the mossy cliffs; in the river below the Yu Temple, the waves roar, as if sweeping away the white sand on the shore in the rushing forward. White clouds are stirring the blue walls, while Jiang Tao is frantically rolling the beach, which is like a painting full of fun and spectacular beauty. Readers can feel that the poet's heart is full of excitement and enthusiasm at this time. The poet puts forward that this excitement and enthusiasm is endowed by the magnificent landscape of nature and aroused by Dayu's great deeds of water control, which leads to the second part of the narrative of Dayu's deeds. The words "shh" and "go" are very vivid: "shh" means exhaling slowly, and writing out the state that the clouds are slowly curled close to the blue wall, which is naughty. I thought that the white clouds gently hissed and teased the blue wall, like a lovely little girl; "Walking" means running. This word can be said that the Yangtze River is running, or that the roar of the Yangtze River is running and spreading. It can also be said that the white sand on the shore runs forward under the drive of the river, which can be described as a vivid scene of the Yangtze River flowing to the Three Gorges, showing readers a colorful and dynamic situation, full of interest and strength.
"I knew it would take four years to control the third car." Walking out of the temple and looking at the Three Gorges from the cliff, the poet's heroic feelings for Dayu's greatness and magnificent landscape reached the extreme, so he squeezed out a sigh of admiration from the tail seam: Dayu, I have long heard about your heroic deeds of running around for four years, dredging the Yangtze River and digging through the Three Gorges. Today, I admire your achievements and appreciate the beautiful scenery of the Three Gorges created by you. Poetically speaking, the upper and lower sentences of this couplet are connected together, that is, "I had known this" and "four years to govern the three fairs". Generally speaking, verses that can be connected are not easy to type, so only sentences that can be connected are commonly used, such as Xin Qiji's "Hidden Water Dragon": "The sunset is on the roof, and the sound is broken. The wanderer in the south of the Yangtze River saw Wu Gou, but the column has been shot all over, so he has no intention of joining the society. But here Du Fu got through all the sentences, but he spoke neatly. " "Multiplication" and "Four Years" are ingenious to "Control" and "March Eighth" without damaging poetry, which can really be said to be an old-school pen.
This poem is about Dayu Temple. Except for the last couplet, there is no positive mention of Dayu. The poet mainly writes about what he saw outside the temple, and then writes about the river from the inside out. However, all this involves Dayu's great historical achievements. The whole poem is concise in language and profound in artistic conception. The poet changed his perspective from a distant view to a close view, and used the methods of combining reality with reality, personification and vividness, which received the artistic effect of blending scenes and lasting charm, eulogized Dayu's great achievements in water control and Ze Bei through the ages, and expressed his thoughts and feelings of remembering heroes and patriotism. The "Yu Temple" in the 40 words has beautiful scenery, all-inclusive temple appearance, rigorous writing and magnificent overall weather. This is a masterpiece praising history and remembering the past. Some scholars even think that the poems about temples in the Tang Dynasty can't surpass the achievements of Du Fu's Yu Temple and Re-Zhaoling Mausoleum.
