How to build the first green community in China?

In April, 1999, "Beijing Global Village", Xuanwu District Environmental Sanitation Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, Spiritual Civilization Office, Baizhifang Street and Property Management Company established the first green community pilot in China-Gong Jian Li Nan Green Community. Green community model includes environmental protection facilities and citizen participation mechanism in the community, involving energy saving, water saving, garbage sorting, greening and other aspects, as well as environmental protection software construction.

With the strong support of Xuanwu District Environmental Sanitation Bureau, "Beijing Global Village" organized a series of publicity and education activities on garbage classification in Xuanwu District, carried out training activities on "Let environmental protection enter life" and "Let environmental protection enter community", and organized residents to visit landfill sites. After training, residents' awareness of environmental protection has been greatly improved.

The establishment of a green community in Gong Jian, Li Nan has strengthened Liao Xiaoyi's confidence. Therefore, in order to better promote the green community model, in August, 2000, Liao Xiaoyi, the environmental consultant of BOCOG, actively participated in the formulation of the Beijing Green Olympics Action Plan, and submitted the Implementation Plan of Garbage Sorting and suggestions for promoting the green community to Liu Qi, then the mayor of Beijing, which was taken seriously and adopted by the Beijing Municipal Government. In September, 2000, the Beijing Municipal Government held a green community site meeting. Nearly 100 leaders from 18 visited the green community in Gong Jian, Li Nan. Garbage sorting has become an important part of the Green Olympics Action Plan, and has been implemented by the Beijing Municipal Government as an important task.

In 20001year, the Beijing Olympic bid committee adopted the green community promotion plan proposed by "Beijing Global Village" and made it one of the contents of the green Olympic action plan.
