Geological museum's new look after renovation.

Geological Museum of China

200 1~2004

First, start an unprecedented renovation project.

With the rapid development of China's economy and society, especially at the end of the 20th century, the trend of world economic globalization has become increasingly obvious, China's socialist market economic system has been continuously improved, and the people's demand for museums has been increasing. In contrast, the old buildings and backward exhibition concepts and means in geological museum and China have lagged far behind the development of the situation. Especially, the buildings in geological museum built in 1958 have experienced abrasion for more than 40 years and the impact of 1976 Tangshan earthquake, and the natural damage is very serious. Although it has been partially strengthened and repaired for many times, due to various conditions at that time, the problems of poor seismic capacity and outdated infrastructure of the whole building have never been fundamentally solved. Even by the end of the 20th century, while the trend of building new museums and renovating old ones around the world is getting higher and higher, geological museum, China, which represents the level of geological museum in China countries, has fallen into a dilemma that is contrary to the development of the times. The museum building is dilapidated, the warehouse leaks in rainy days, the exhibition hall is stuffy in sunny days, the power supply line is aging, the fire pipeline has no water pressure, the anti-theft facilities are imperfect, and the only elevator is often out of service, full of loopholes and dangers. The textbook-style display concept and specimen-label display form are far behind the development of museums and the requirements of the vast audience. In addition, the content of the exhibition is still in the stage of incomplete science popularization, which professionals can't appreciate and non-professionals can't understand. The number of visitors is decreasing year by year, and the survival of geological museum in China has been severely challenged.

Fortunately, this situation has aroused the deep concern of the leaders of the Ministry of Land and Resources and relevant state departments. In July, 2000, under the guidance of the Finance Department of the Ministry, geological museum officially submitted the Report of Building Renovation and Reconstruction Project in geological museum, China to the Ministry. At the end of September, 2000, geological museum, China, which was in trouble, quietly closed its doors. A few days later, Beijing Evening News published a notice of closure, which attracted the attention of domestic and foreign audiences and media. From June, 5438 to February, 2000, the Ministry of Finance issued the "Special Fund for Repairing and Updating Equipment in geological museum, China" with the document of Cai Jian [2000]7 12, and geological museum, China ushered in the biggest development opportunity since its establishment.

The Ministry of Land and Resources adjusted the leading group of the museum, and Cheng Liwei was promoted to curator and secretary of the party committee of the museum, which achieved the unification of the main leaders of the party and government for the first time in the history of geological museum. On the afternoon of 200 1 1 2, the Ministry of Land and Resources held the first ministerial office meeting of that year to study the renovation project in geological museum, China, and the meeting adopted the renovation project plan proposed by geological museum, China. At the same time, it is required to position the museum as a "patriotic education base" and a "popular science education base", build the museum into a famous geoscience museum at home and abroad, and create a veritable "window" of land and resources. According to the regulations of the relevant national authorities on the implementation of legal person responsibility system for construction projects, the curator is the person in charge of the renovation project in geological museum, China, presiding over the overall planning of the project and making decisions on major issues; We have also hired retired cadres and some on-the-job staff who are familiar with the project construction and museums, and set up a capable renovation project office in geological museum, China, which is responsible for the organization and implementation of the project under the direct leadership of the curator. In order to ensure the standardized operation of the project, the working rules of the project office were specially formulated, and the professional accounting firm was entrusted to be responsible for the financial management of the project, and the follow-up audit was organized.

Restore and transform the appearance of the museum.

Geological museum is undergoing external decoration construction.

According to the contents of the renovation project in geological museum, China and the relevant requirements of the Ministry leaders, it was decided to divide the project into three stages. The first stage is seismic strengthening and external decoration. The second stage is the installation and decoration of building equipment in the building; The third stage is the basic exhibition reconstruction and exhibition decoration. In order to ensure the synchronization of the first-phase project and the renovation of the Ministry building and unify the facade style, the leading group of the renovation project of the Ministry building decided that the first-phase project of the renovation project of geological museum, China should be presided over by the Project Office of the Ministry Information Center, with the cooperation of geological museum. The second and third stages are organized and implemented by geological museum to meet the professional requirements of the museum. On 200 1 February1day, the overall relocation of the library started. After 58 days and nights of hard work, the staff of the whole museum organized the withdrawal of the exhibition, grabbed the specimen boxes and packed them, and finally moved out 2,500 boxes of specimens, 328 boxes of materials, 92 boxes of equipment and a number of scattered specimens and equipment. Abandoned exhibits and building attachments were auctioned on the spot. During the renovation, the specimens were stored in four places. Among them, rare specimens are stored in China Merchants Bank (Fuxingmen), and the exhibition hall specimens are sealed in the basement downstairs. Ordinary specimens, materials and equipment are rented in a 500-square-meter warehouse in the eastern suburb of China Geological Materials Company, and scattered specimens are stored in the original museum specimen factory (Baita Temple). The staff of the museum is divided into three offices, of which five offices, namely, the museum leader and office, the finance department, the party-mass department, the scientific research department and the Chen Yibu, are rented in Dahong Gongchang Street, Xicheng District, Beijing. The Ministry of Social Education, the Trusteeship Department and the Ministry of Social Affairs moved to the original specimen factory for office; The newly established building renovation project office is located in the bungalow of the East Campus of the Museum. After the building was completely vacated, the basic environment of the building, including radioactive radon and other harmful gases, was specially tested, which laid the foundation for ensuring that the reconstructed environment reached the standard. At the same time, the Seismic Research Institute of China Institute of Building Research was entrusted to conduct a comprehensive test on the seismic resistance, bearing capacity and aging degree of the building, which provided a scientific basis for formulating the reinforcement and decoration scheme. At the same time, the overall design of the project was organized synchronously, and the architectural style of the building was improved. First of all, the shape of the building is basically unchanged, so as to maintain the iconic position of Dibo Building in the West Fourth District; Secondly, add geological professional symbols and modern designs such as gem windows and glass curtain walls; Thirdly, the facade is made of dry-hung light red coarse granite stone to ensure the harmony and unity with the four architectural styles in the west of the headquarters.

Building functions have been comprehensively improved. First of all, according to the requirements of resisting 8-degree earthquake and being reused for 50 years, some measures are taken to strengthen the earthquake, such as wrapping steel beams and columns, adding shear walls, bonding cracks and reducing the load on the outer wall and top floor. Secondly, on the basis of the original elevator, two new elevators are added, and the elevator without machine room is selected to realize the purpose of elevator going to the seventh floor; Third, the building security, fire protection, integrated wiring and so on have been completely transformed. 200 1 April1day, the building renovation project in geological museum, China officially started.

Second, the concept of building the museum has been repositioned and the exhibition design has been comprehensively innovated.

The orientation of audience group and the orientation of basic display content and form are mutually causal and interdependent. In a sense, the success of museum renovation depends on whether the result of renovation can be accepted by ordinary audience. Looking back on history, although geological museum has carried out many reforms on the basic display after opening to the society, the display form has been gradually improved. Especially since 1980s, the Party and the state have attached great importance to popular science work, and geological museum has also begun to pay attention to popularization and promotion in exhibitions. However, due to the lack of clear audience positioning, it has been hovering between professionals and ordinary audiences, resulting in a long-term bleak situation in which subjective wishes are out of touch with objective reality and the audience is small. In view of this, after the start of the renovation project in geological museum, China, great attention was paid to the innovation of exhibition concept and form. In order to brainstorm, seek a feasible way of innovation and form a set of innovative and effective schemes, in August 20001,dozens of experts and scholars from the geological and museum circles were invited to hold a seminar on the construction and development of geological museum in China in the Ming Tombs.

2001101held a technical disclosure meeting on October 23rd.

Geological museum, China, concentrated the opinions of this conference and several subsequent seminars in different scopes, and defined the audience orientation of "focusing on non-professionals, focusing on teenagers, taking into account the needs of scientific researchers". A service model of basic exhibitions and related popular science activities has been established, focusing on young people, popularizing scientific knowledge for non-professional audiences, and providing basic observation and research facilities to meet the needs of professionals by gradually establishing a specimen lending system. Formed a "exhibition content must closely follow the theme of the times, pay attention to human living space and quality of life; We should always pay attention to the window function of land and resources and strive to show the most cutting-edge academic ideas and the latest work results; We should adhere to the principle of doing something different, handle the relationship between systematization of knowledge and highlighting key points, and solve the relationship between collection advantages, research characteristics, audience needs and social hot issues; No matter the design of exhibition content or exhibition form, it must meet the actual situation of knowledge demand, thinking mode and physiological characteristics of non-professional audience, especially teenagers, and comprehensively improve the attraction, affinity and effectiveness of knowledge dissemination of the exhibition to non-professional audience, especially teenagers.

Chinese delegation from geological museum visited Fukui Dinosaur Museum.

At the same time, in order to broaden our horizons and catch up with the most advanced exhibition design level of the world museums, extensive investigation and research work was organized and implemented with the participation of the whole museum staff. More than 20 research groups were formed to inspect nearly 100 famous natural science museums and some comprehensive museums in Japan, Britain, France, Russia, the United States, Canada and other countries. Through the exchange of research results in the library, the quality of the staff of the whole library, especially the designers, can be improved and their horizons can be expanded. They grasp the trend of world museum construction and the pulse of development.

The design of the quality pavilion is bold and innovative.

June 5438+October 2002 10, the Ministry of Land and Resources opened the North Square of Xisi Building Complex and the North Gate of geological museum. Let the dreams of several generations of museum employees come true and greatly improve the surrounding environment.

From March to June, 2002, 5438+ 10, geological museum, China, with the participation of relevant departments of the Ministry, organized the second-phase project bidding in an orderly and standardized manner, becoming the first government procurement project to enter the Beijing construction market for public bidding. The second phase of the project mainly includes seven contents: civil engineering (including strong electricity, water supply and drainage), interior decoration engineering, fire fighting engineering, security engineering, integrated wiring engineering, central air conditioning installation, elevator installation and cabinet installation in the warehouse. In June, 2002, a symposium was held in Xifeng Temple, Beijing to listen to the opinions of retired experts on the display design.

In July 2002, the first phase of the project was completed.

After long-term careful preparation, in September, 2002, in order to meet the needs of personnel system reform in public institutions and modern management after building renovation, geological museum organized and implemented the personnel system reform in the library, and the number of institutions in the library was adjusted from 8 to 14. The adjusted institutions are: Office, Personnel Department, Planning and Finance Department, Party Committee Office, Collection Preservation Department, Social Education Department, Exhibition Department, Rock and Mineral Research Office, Paleontology Research Office, Specimen Technology Laboratory, Information Network Department, Science Popularization Center, Specimen Center and Property Management Center. At the same time, identity management was changed to post management, and all staff were recruited. Through the reform, the staff of the whole library has taken on a new look.

On September 7, 2002, a mobilization meeting for the reform of library personnel system was held.

On June 5438+00, 2002, the second phase of the project was officially started.

Local effect map of Ministry of Land and Resources

From June 5438 to February 2002, an exhibition seminar was held in Xiangshan, and the exhibition plan was basically established. The layout of the exhibition has been adjusted. According to the earth's sphere structure and geoscience principles, the first floor was changed to Maple Leaf Pavilion, the second floor to Mineral Rock Pavilion and Gem Pavilion, the third floor to Prehistoric Biology Pavilion and the first exhibition hall, and the fourth floor to Land and Resources Pavilion and the second exhibition hall. In terms of exhibition content, in order to solve the problem of duplication between the original pavilions, the content of each pavilion was redefined first, and then the design ideas of each pavilion were straightened out. Among them, Mapparium focuses on geodynamics, focusing on the earth in the universe and its internal and external dynamic geological processes; The mineral rock series is dominated by the macroscopic morphology of mineral crystals, taking into account the microstructure of rocks and the relationship among the three major rocks. The Gem Hall focuses on displaying the charm of gems to beautify human life from a cultural perspective. The prehistoric biology museum focuses on telling the audience several major events in the process of biological evolution, and at the same time shows the advantages of the museum's collections; The Ministry of Land and Resources introduces the relevant national conditions, policies and laws of China from four aspects: land resources, mineral resources, marine resources and surveying and mapping. In the form of exhibition, we strive to bring the dead specimens alive, explain the living truth thoroughly, provide the audience with as many experiences as possible, ensure that there are bright spots in the museum, and innovate our own unique exhibits on the basis of modern exhibition technology.

In February, 2002, geological museum, China, which is still under repair, was jointly named as "National Youth Science and Technology Education Base" by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, Ministry of Education and China Association for Science and Technology. From April to June, 2003, just as the second-phase reconstruction project in geological museum entered a critical stage and the third-phase bidding work was started, a sudden SARS epidemic swept across the country, making the second-phase construction and the third-phase bidding work in geological museum, China difficult. However, SARS did not stop this project. With far-sighted vision and strict preventive measures, geological museum ensured the safety of all employees and more than 0/00 workers on the construction site, ensured the continuation of the project, and completed the tender for the third phase of the project.

By the end of May 2003, the main part of the second phase of the project had been completed.

By the end of May 2003, the main part of the second phase of the project had been completed.

In June 2003, the staff in the museum moved back to the new museum and started the third stage (exhibition) project.

Third, a new realm

During the renovation, the museum leadership paid attention to the progress of the project, deepened the reform and comprehensively promoted all aspects of work. The Museum Project Office strictly follows the relevant national laws and regulations, financial system, capital construction procedures and the relevant provisions of government procurement projects, eliminates all kinds of interference, persists in proceeding from reality, focuses on ensuring the safety of the building structure, and rationally arranges all the work to ensure the smooth progress of the project and the realization of the transformation goal. After comprehensive seismic strengthening and thorough repair, the buildings in geological museum, China have taken on a new look.

After the transformation, the architecture in geological museum, China changed its gloomy and uncharacteristic appearance, and stood beautifully on the south side of the east end of Funei Street with a style with obvious geological characteristics and strong modernity, which became the architectural highlight of the western four regions. This design scheme, which was completed by Beijing Institute of Architectural Design of China Academy of Sciences, was preliminarily screened out from several design schemes put forward by different design units after repeated discussions under the auspices of Vice Minister in charge, and was determined after revision according to the opinions of our library. This design scheme, with light red granite curtain wall matched with glass curtain wall, looks like a "gem window" of mineral crystals, which makes the whole building look like a boulder inlaid with several crystal-clear mineral crystals, forming a unique architectural style, which is different from the office building of the Ministry of Land and Resources and organically integrated with it to form a complete building complex, which is well received by all parties.

In the newly renovated building, there are fire fighting systems including automatic alarm nozzles, fire hydrants and various fire extinguishers, including advanced TV monitoring and automatic alarm safety systems, heating and cooling air conditioning systems, as well as perfect power supply systems, water supply and drainage systems, computer network systems, TV receiving systems, broadcasting systems and communication systems. The layout of the building, especially the exhibition area on the first to fourth floors, has also been adjusted according to the characteristics of the building structure and the requirements of building a modern museum with complete functions and scientific management. The first to fourth floors are divided into three halls: the middle hall, the south hall and the west hall. On the first floor, the central hall is the reception hall and the west hall is the audience service department. The South Pavilion from the first floor to the fourth floor and the West Pavilion on the second floor are the basic exhibition halls; The west hall on the third and fourth floors is a temporary exhibition hall; The middle hall on the second to fourth floors is a place for the audience to rest, shop and arrange small temporary exhibitions. Among them, there is a specimen consulting service department in the lobby on the second floor, a specimen restoration laboratory in the lobby on the third floor and a souvenir supermarket in the lobby on the fourth floor. The office area is completely separated by stainless steel keel glass, and the transparent, spacious and bright office is equipped with specially designed filing cabinets, wardrobes and office tables and chairs, so that employees can enjoy the modern office environment and continuously improve their work efficiency and self-discipline ability. The improvement of infrastructure and architectural functions has created an elegant, comfortable, convenient and safe environment full of modern culture for the audience and staff.

Dense specimen cabinet in warehouse

June 2003: 5438+065438+1October 2 1, completing the relocation of fine specimens; At the end of March 2004, the relocation of common specimens was completed. After transformation, the specimen library has changed the previous situation of dusty ground, constant security risks, messy and crowded wooden cabinets and scooping water after rain, and replaced it with specially designed and customized heavy-duty mobile dense cabinets and high-tech all-round technical defense facilities.

On May 3, 2004, the exhibition project and the internal and external environmental treatment project were completely completed. The newly-built exhibition hall has made a qualitative leap from the exhibition concept to the exhibition content and form. First of all, the function of popular science has been comprehensively strengthened. According to the audience orientation of "taking non-professionals as the main body, focusing on teenagers and taking into account the needs of professionals", the exhibition will incorporate all the geoscience knowledge involved in the physical geography course for primary and secondary school students into the exhibition content and improve it, so that geological museum, China will become the first classroom for geoscience education for primary and secondary school students. In the form of exhibition, we should avoid the disadvantages of the old building structure and make full use of acousto-optic technology, multimedia technology, bionic technology and virtual reality technology. And dig deep into the connotation of the exhibits, so that the audience can experience and understand the true meaning of geological science in sensory enjoyment. Secondly, it has taken a big step towards internationalization. The newly displayed content ranges from layout text and label text to multimedia text and voice interpretation text. For the first time in the history of geological museum, China, all-round Chinese-English comparison was realized, which eliminated the language barrier of foreign audiences and equipped some exhibition guides for English majors. Thirdly, the return of humanistic spirit has been realized. The design concept of "people-oriented, audience first" is reflected everywhere from the outside to the inside of the building, and then to the exhibition hall and audience lounge. The barrier-free access design of the whole museum, the equipment of wheelchairs and strollers, the exhibits that the audience participated in and the self-help explanation system all reflected the return of humanism.

On June 1 2004, the museum reopened for trial operation and solicited opinions from all walks of life.

On July 14, 2004, it officially reopened. Today, 88 years ago, geological museum, China grew from scratch; Today, 88 years later, geological museum, China reappears in front of the world with a brand-new look.
