The origin of Changde's name

Since the Neolithic Age, an ancient tribe has been active in northwest Hunan (now Changde). This tribe was called "Baipu" and "Gunman" in history. Changde is located in the lower reaches of Yuanshui River, which was the only place to pass through Yunnan and Guizhou in ancient times. Known as "the lips and teeth of the West Chu" and "the throat of a thousand rivers". . "Historical Records" and "Capital Tongzhi Jian" contain: "In the first year of Qin Xiaogong, the six countries were stronger than the east of the rivers and mountains ... Chu was from Hanzhong, and Ba and Qian were in the south." The Chu people's possession of "central Guizhou" is equivalent to the early mid-Warring States period. Qu Yuan's Lisao said: "Jiyuan in southern Hunan made a statement to China." The poet's remarks about "Jiyuan, Southern Hunan Expedition" are a recollection of the conquest of South Vietnam and Baipu since King Wen of Chu. "Historical Records" contains: "In the 30 th year of Qin Dynasty (277 BC), Shuzhong County was ruled by it, and Wujun and Jiangnan were located in Qianzhong County." Nan Man in the later Han Dynasty said, "Han Xing changed to Wuling." It can be seen that Zhang Ruo's statement that he built a city here after he conquered Chu and seized the land in central Guizhou is credible. Mr. Zhou, a member of China Collectors Association and a native of Changde, wrote a Textual Research on Wuling Treasures. There are three layers of cultural accumulation under Changde. The first cultural layer (upper layer) is dominated by bricks, bowls and dishes in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The second cultural layer (middle layer) includes Tang Kaiyuan, Song Chongning, Qian, Shuangfeng bronze mirror and ceramics. The artifacts unearthed in the third cultural layer (the lower layer) are: pottery pots, pottery beans and bronze spears, which were discovered in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. It can be seen that this third culture belongs to the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Changde City is piled up on this basis. Accordingly, Mr. Zhou, a member of China Collectors Association, concluded that the ancient city of Changde was built in the Warring States Period, about 2290 years ago.
