Now China has caught up with the architectural age, new technologies and concepts have emerged, and the conditions are ripe, so all these projects are possible, and we have just caught up with this era. Although some people criticize Jianwai SOHO, for example, some people think it is too simple, why not paint some colors? I think it will take five years, and I believe someone will accept it then. Leading fashion means walking faster than others, and it's boring when it's slow.

Q: Your past four projects have attracted the attention of domestic and foreign media, especially the "Commune at the Foot of the Great Wall". Can you talk about the similarities between these projects?

A: What we are facing now is the Internet age and the information age. The core concept of modern city and Jianwai is SOHO. With the advent of the Internet era, it is efficient to integrate our life and work. Today, you don't know whether your mobile phone is used for work or life. This ethnic group appeared in China, and our house was designed for them. "Commune at the foot of the Great Wall" and the Blue Coast of Jiao Bo provide a temporary refuge for busy modern people. The busier a city is, the more it longs for a moment of peace, so these two projects enable modern people to enjoy a relaxed and isolated state. Q: Jianwai SOHO is a high-end residential area, but there is no fence. Anyone can use the public space inside, which is very different from domestic real estate projects. You call it a democracy-era building. Can you talk about this concept?

A: Jianwai SOHO emphasizes democratic architecture. The advent of the information age provides the possibility for democratization. People are equal. China is still very backward. Generally, buildings still have walls. There are rich people inside the wall and poor people outside. We should break this concept and make architecture a part of society, a part of the city and everyone. This is not only more efficient, but also allows outsiders to come in, which is healthy for the mental development of people living inside. Q: At present, the largest construction projects in China are undertaken by foreign construction companies. Are architects in China not up to standard?

A: Actually, domestic designers have made rapid progress, and some of them are excellent, such as Zhang Yonghe and Ma Qingyun. Originally, there was no design in China, and there were faults in its development, but it lasted for hundreds of years abroad. We often invite some foreign architects to give lectures in China. The communication between China architects and top foreign architects also inspired them. Although there is still a big gap between the overall level and the international level, I believe the distance will be closer and closer.
