Is the new standard a new trade barrier?

Frankly speaking, ISO 14000 has put more emphasis on the obligations that enterprises should undertake to the earth where we live together. However, since environmental protection has long been the common sense of human beings, the promotion of ISO 14000 is rapid and severe.

As early as last year when ISO 14000 was published, the International Organization for Standardization announced that this new certification standard would only give a buffer period of two to three years. After the buffer period, the international market may impose some restrictions on uncertified enterprises and products, and some developed countries are likely to use this to build non-tariff barriers to products from third world countries. In the United States, the Department of Energy requires all contract manufacturers to pass ISO 14000 certification before September this year, otherwise the contract will be cancelled. However, one analyst believes that whether this certification is passed or not will have an impact on bankers and insurance companies, who will make decisions on loans, debts and even interest rates.

Input and output of environmental certification

Generally speaking, it takes an enterprise about six months to one year from consulting to obtaining ISO 14000 certification, and the cost will be different in different countries. By the year 2000, there will be 100 to 200 enterprises in Shenzhen that have passed the certification and obtained green cards to enter the international market.
