Commercial and residential buildings on the eastern waterfront of Tsim Sha Tsui
Most of the buildings on the east coast of Tsim Sha Tsui were built in the early 1980s. Due to the height limitation of Kai Tak Airport, the height of buildings varies from 10 to 16 floors. There are basements, steel and glass curtain walls and square box shapes. Donghai Commercial Center, Tsim Sha Tsui Center and Empire Center are typical buildings of this type. Tsim Sha Tsui East is the last planning in Hong Kong to follow the old-style independent building, which is different from the current planning based on three floors underground and independent buildings upstairs. Because there is no pedestrian platform connecting the base of shopping malls in the east of Tsim Sha Tsui, there is a danger of people and vehicles competing for lanes, which indirectly makes the development of eastern Tsim Sha Tsui far behind other areas in Tsim Sha Tsui.
