BIM software can be divided into two categories:

The first category: modeling software, function: creating models.

The second category: application software, function: application model

The third category: platform software, function: multi-person collaboration.

There is no clear boundary between the first two, some modeling software can also realize some applications, and some application software can also build some models, but each has its own emphasis. For example, commonly used revit and navisworks belong to modeling software, which can create models, while navisworks belong to application software, which can not create models, but can be used for some applications, such as collision checking, progress simulation, animation production, engineering output and so on.
