Suzhou (pinyin: s zhūu, dialect: Suzhou dialect) is a city in China, which was called Wu in ancient times and is now called Su for short. It has many ancient names and nicknames, such as Gusu, Wudu, Wuzhong, Wu Dong, Wumen and Heping River. In the ninth year of Emperor Wendi (AD 589), it was named Suzhou, which was named after Gusu Mountain in the southwest of the city. Suzhou was inhabited by human beings five or six thousand years ago. According to legend, Xia Zhi ruled the world as Kyushu and Suzhou as Guyang. Suzhou was the capital of Wu in the Spring and Autumn Period. At that time, Wu Zixu, the general of the State of Wu, obtained the consent of the King of Wu, built a wall in Suzhou, and dug a canal as a moat to defend the city of Suzhou. In the third year (473 BC), Wu returned to Yue State and then merged with Chu State. Huiji County was established in Qin and Western Han Dynasties, and Wuxian County was the first city in Huiji County. Wu County was founded in the Eastern Han Dynasty. In the early Ming Dynasty, Pingjiang Road was changed to Pingjiang House, which governed Taicang and Wuxian, Changzhou, Changshu, Wujiang, Kunshan, Jiading and Chongming.
