Domestic water is mainly extracted from rivers, lakes, groundwater and surface water through the water intake pumping station of waterworks. According to the national sanitary standard for drinking water, the waterworks are treated by sedimentation, disinfection, filtration and other processes, and finally delivered to various users through the water distribution pump station.

From 20 13 10 15, Beijing Water Supply Group will release tap water quality information through the group website for the first time. The public can click on the water quality information disclosure column on the right side of the homepage of the website, which contains the catalogue and each specific content.

The scope of water quality information publication includes: the water quality of the pipe network and the factory water quality of nine water supply companies in the urban water supply area of Water Supply Group and its suburbs (counties). Nine suburban county companies include Nankou, Mentougou, Huairou, Miyun, Yanqing, Fangshan, Daxing, Tongzhou and Changxindian.

The published contents of water quality in the pipe network are the maximum and minimum values of seven indicators, namely turbidity, chromaticity, smell, disinfectant residue, total number of colonies, total coliforms and oxygen consumption. The published contents of the quality of the factory water are the maximum and minimum values of the quarterly test results of 42 routine indicators in the Hygienic Standard for Drinking Water.
