Some experts have analyzed that this 80-kilometer-long belt-shaped region will drive the economic development of Hubei and the Yangtze River basin and form a highland for the rise of central China.
As a port city with a long history, Wuhan is born of water, and the thoroughfare of nine provinces is famous for water. People also live in fear of water, and flood control is the top priority every summer. Compared with the development of railways, highways and aviation, the Yangtze River waterway equivalent to 16 Beijing-Guangzhou railway has not been paid enough attention and well utilized. In today's energy shortage and soaring oil prices, the transportation advantages of golden waterway with low energy consumption, low land occupation, low cost and large capacity are prominent.
Different from ordinary ports, the planned Wuhan New Port is not only an important platform to gather production factors and serve the rise of central China, but also an inland river international port to promote the development of international trade in central China, a pilot area to promote the development of port economy and urban agglomeration, and a large-scale comprehensive transportation hub integrating highway, aviation, railway and water transportation.
In the future, Wuhan Xingang will form a new economic growth model with the port as the point and the Yangtze River as the line, which will drive the development of a number of industrial clusters in the central region. In the preliminary planning of Wuhan New Port, comprehensive bonded zone, economic development zone, logistics processing zone and other industrial parks will be built along the Yangtze River to vigorously develop the port economy and form industrial clusters such as logistics, steel, chemical industry, energy, shipbuilding, new building materials, photoelectric communication and modern manufacturing.
By 2025, the cargo throughput will reach16.36 million tons, the container throughput will reach 3.5 million TEUs, and it will exceed 10 million TEUs in the future. This is equivalent to at least 5,000 large trucks transporting 6-meter-long standard containers from Wuhan Xingang every day.
Experts believe that this will drive Wuhan's economic center of gravity eastward.
Wuhan's economy is strong in the southwest and weak in the northeast. An important reason is that the traffic situation in southwest China is obviously better than that in northeast China. Before the Yangluo Bridge was opened to traffic, Xinzhou District and Yangluo Development Zone in Wuhan were across the river, but it was difficult to reach them.
The situation has changed fundamentally. After the completion of Yangluo Bridge, the north and south banks of Wuhan Xingang merged into one, and became a part of the "four vertical, five horizontal and ten connecting lines" highway dredging system composed of Wuhan Third Ring Road, Wuhan Ring Expressway, 106 National Highway, Wu-E Expressway, Tangjiadu Yangtze River Bridge and Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway. In terms of railways, Beijing-Kowloon, Wujiu and the railway connecting lines between them form an I-shaped railway network. In the future, we will also plan to build special railway lines in the port area, such as the double track of Yangluo Power Plant, the special railway line from Wujiu Railway to Baihushan Working Area, and the special railway line in Beihu Working Area.
With modern ports as the core, these transportation facilities have promoted the development of WISCO steel deep processing and equipment manufacturing, petrochemical industry and its downstream industries driven by the 800,000-ton ethylene project, textile and garment industry and new building materials industry. , forming a new focus of Wuhan's economy with heavy chemical industry as the mainstay. The government also hopes that port construction will promote the construction of new urban areas, realize the interaction between port and city, accelerate the development of Yangluo New City and Wuhua New City, and form urban agglomerations such as Gehua Port Industry and Trade New City and Tangjiadu Port Logistics New City.
