What is the prospect of Blu-ray in China?

On April 22nd, 2009, China Blu-ray HD CBHD (China Blu-ray HD) video player was officially launched, TCL, Shinco and other content providers officially launched CBHD player products to the market, and Warner Bros., China Singing Company and other content providers also announced the provision of CBHD movies, which means that China's Blu-ray HD disc industry has entered a new stage of market development from specification formulation. At present, China has completed the layout of CBHD industrial chain, including CBHD standard formulation, key technology research and development, CD manufacturing, content processing and machine manufacturing. Compared with the DVD industry a few years ago, CBHD's approach is more robust. However, some mainstream DVD companies in China are not optimistic about CBHD, thinking that it may repeat the mistakes of EVD. What is the future development of CBHD? Will it reproduce the glory of similar VCD industry? Or follow in the footsteps of EVD? However, even in the face of so many challenges, CBHD still has room for survival, because at present, the main consumer groups in China are in rural areas, and the network hardware construction in rural areas in China is still very backward. In addition, after the economic crisis, the government of China increased its efforts to stimulate domestic demand, and specially introduced the preferential policy of "home appliances going to the countryside" for rural areas in China-the government subsidized 13% of the cost of each appliance, involving home appliances and agricultural machinery.

In addition, China is the world's largest CD industry and consumer. In the DVD era, China produced nearly10 billion DVD discs, accounting for more than 30% of the global production, and more than 80% of the global DVD players were produced in China. At the same time, China consumes 20-30 million CD-Roms and 50-6 billion DVD discs every year. This consumption inertia will remain for some time in the CBHD era. As long as CBHD uses low cost, it can gain market. From the industry point of view, the current output of DVD players in China is about 654.38 billion units per year, accounting for more than 80% of the global output. The output of other related external equipment products, such as PC CD-ROM/CD-ROM drives, accounts for 70% of the global output and has a huge industrial base. If such a huge industrial base cannot be inherited and continued, it will inevitably lead to huge waste, while the price of CBHD products is low and the proportion of patent fees is low (the overall cost of patent fees is reduced to 2-4% of the cost of disk drive enterprises). More importantly, the existing optical drive enterprises can transform the DVD production line to produce CBHD with a small investment, while the production of BD products requires completely different production lines. Therefore, from the industrial base, the advantages of CBHD are more obvious.

At present, China has been actively promoting the broadcast of high-definition digital TV programs, and the price of flat-panel high-definition TV sets has been falling all the way, which has led to a sharp increase in the number of high-definition TV users in China. It is estimated that the number of HDTV users in China will reach 27 million in 2009, 47 million in 20 10 and 72 million in 20 165438. China's HDTV has entered the stage of accelerated popularization, with an annual number of150,000 sets. Nowadays, many families have the problem of matching DVD players with HDTV. If 70% of households are replaced by matching HD DVD players, the market size of HD DVD players in China can exceed 6.5438+million sets every year, which is a very huge market, and of course BD will also intervene in this market. The key is whether CBHD shows great advantages in content and price. Now there are pirated BD discs on the market, but the price is as high as 60 yuan, which is still higher than the original CBHD disc, so CBHD still has a competitive advantage.

In the DVD market, mobile, recording, music sharing and storage market segments have been formed. If CBHD introduces differentiated products according to the habits of consumers in the DVD era, it may become the first choice for many consumers to upgrade DVDs.
