Where did the magnet go in the ammeter?

I remember hearing a saying when I was a child that putting a magnet on an electric meter can reduce the electricity bill, and it has been proved in practice. So what is the reason?

This is mainly because at that time, household electric meters were all old-fashioned mechanical watches, which were measured by the rotation of the hands, and the hands that beat the numbers inside were all iron. Therefore, when you put a magnet on it, the attraction of the magnet will slow down the speed of the pointer, and the speed will slow down, and the number displayed on it will gradually increase. When you pay the electricity bill, you will copy the figures on the electricity meter, subtract the figures of last month, and calculate the electricity consumption for one month. The figures will naturally go slowly. But this kind of behavior is illegal, and once it is found, it will be fined or imprisoned, so don't try it.

What I just said was when I was a child. Does this method still work now? The answer is: no!

Almost all the meters we use now are smart meters. Smart meters adopt the most advanced radio frequency and base station technology in the world, and realize the characteristics of full sealing, non-contact, dustproof, waterproof, moisture-proof, anti-attack, anti-stealing, anti-magnetic and anti-interference. Ordinary magnets will not have any influence on the instrument.

Smart meters include electronic meters and watt-hour meters. The calculation of electricity consumption of smart meters mainly depends on three cardinal numbers: voltage, current and power. Theoretically, users can steal electricity by changing current, voltage and meter speed. Stealing electricity from smart meters must be accomplished through internal transformation of meters, which requires an electrician foundation. In addition, smart meters are controlled by computers. Therefore, it is difficult for smart meters to steal electricity, mainly for the following reasons:

The first reason is that smart meters at home are all remotely read and switched by computers, so it is difficult to steal electricity unless the internal structure of the meter is changed. Due to the on-off of the relay remote control circuit in the smart meter, the smart meter cannot be powered off without arrears.

Reason 2: Smart meters have the function of preventing electricity theft. The instrument is equipped with a non-return device, and the instrument cannot be reversed for more than one turn. In addition, there is a wire directly connected to the home in the electricity meter, and stealing electricity will be investigated. Smart meters record electricity consumption through metal shunts. If forcibly destroyed, the internal components will be unusable.

Reason 3: Smart meters are blocked. Most properties lock meters or seal them with lead, so users can't touch meters directly as before, so the chance of tampering is very small and it is easy to be found.

Moreover, at present, smart meters have entered the era of remote control, which can read the data of meters through the network, and even some smart meters can read them once in a few minutes, which will not give you a chance to tamper with them, even if they tamper with them, they will leave traces.
