The Institute of Science and Technology of East China Jiaotong University was established in 200 1, located in Huangjiahu Campus of East China Jiaotong University and Huangjiahu University Town. At the beginning of the school, it was named "Nanyang Institute of Technology, East China Jiaotong University" and later renamed "Institute of Science and Technology, East China Jiaotong University".

At the beginning of the college's establishment, the "2+2" model was implemented (that is, undergraduate students studied in Huangjiahu Campus for the first two years of basic courses and studied in the headquarters of East China Jiaotong University for the second two years after specialized courses).
