Luzhou City Wall (Jiangyang District)

Luzhou has a long history. During the Xia and Shang Dynasties, Luzhou belonged to Liangzhou. Jiangyang County was formally established in the Western Han Dynasty. During the Southern Song Dynasty, the "God Arm City" in Luzhou was famous all over the world. Now, there are only some broken walls left in the Luzhou City Wall in Jiangyang District. The title of "Luzhou City Wall" came from this. The "Luzhou City Wall" is located in the urban area of Jiangyang District, with three existing sections, namely, east, north and west, mostly built in the Ming Dynasty. The East City Wall includes Ningguangmen, Renhe City Wall and Huijin City Wall. The north wall includes three sections: Sansheng wall, Dabei street wall and Xiaobei street wall. Only loquat ditch wall is left in the west wall. Full length 1088. 1 m, all made of stone. Among them, the Dongcheng wall is 246 meters long, 4 meters wide and 4.4 meters high. Xicheng wall is 325.6 meters long, 4 meters wide and 6.5 meters high. The East Gate, Ningguangmen, is the only remaining gate. As for the origin of Ningguangmen, according to the local old man, when you look at the Yangtze River from the gatehouse, the moonlight shines on the calm river, and the river is like a mirror, hence the name "Ningguangmen". The arched doorway spans 3m, is 2.8m high and is10.25m deep. Due to the development and changes of the city, the original city wall has been widened into a road, but the doorway of Ningguangmen has become a hole under the road, which looks like bridge opening. Luzhou city wall belongs to the ancient city and Baozhai site, which witnessed the development of Luzhou city since the Song Dynasty and has important historical, humanistic and scientific research value. 1992, the municipal government announced "Luzhou City Wall" as a municipal cultural relics protection unit; In 2007, "Luzhou City Wall" was announced by the provincial government as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit.
