Structured thinking in project management

Structured thinking, in a project manager's daily work process, how to pool all resources, get through all links, avoid possible risks, and guide the team to achieve the goal at a given time node at a reasonable project cost is what every project manager thinks most about in the project process, especially in the early stage of the project. In the course of my work, I summed up the following four aspects of thinking, hoping to help all my friends.

(1) classification and grading thinking.

When you need to deal with complex things, don't grab your eyebrows and beard, classify them first, and reduce the dimension of information processing; If all aspects cannot be taken into account after classification, we should consider grading and focus on the key points first.

(2) Not pursuing perfect thinking

It is divided into two aspects: things and people. Things on the project are related to the characteristics of the project. Because of the complexity and uncertainty of the project, it is impossible to make a perfect plan at the beginning, and it is necessary to make a rolling plan according to the principle of gradual refinement. In addition, there are many stakeholders in the project, so as a project manager, we should balance, set and manage the interests of all stakeholders, rather than meet the interests of all stakeholders.

(3) Overall optimal thinking.

The triangle of project management includes scope, time, cost and quality. In reality, due to fierce competition and changeable business environment, project managers are forced by real pressure to pay attention to the progress and ignore other aspects. Or give up quality because of cost priority; What's more, the project only talks about cost at the beginning, progress in the middle and quality in the end. These situations violate the principle of global optimization. The project manager should start from the whole, find out what is the most important goal of the project from the sponsors and customers, make comprehensive balance and optimization, and meet the requirements of all parties to the greatest extent.

(4)PDCA thinking.

Let's not talk about continuous improvement here, because continuous improvement has been implied in the thinking of not seeking perfection. In the PDCA cycle, there is another secret to deal with things-calm and calm. In the process of project management, it is inevitable to encounter various obstacles and difficulties. In the face of problems reported by team members, the project manager must be calm and calm. Please follow the following steps:

First of all, we must ensure that we "don't believe" any one-sided rhetoric, which is only information and not enough for the project manager to make a decision;

Investigate and confirm the facts, form their own logic, collect information from many parties, and make any decision without information is blind;

Analyze the impact of the problem;

Make plans and solutions;

Take action;

Check the effect of the action and make improvements.
