Hubei Water Conservancy and Hydropower Vocational and Technical College was established with the approval of Hubei Provincial People's Government in 2002 and filed by the Ministry of Education. It is the only higher vocational and technical college in the water conservancy industry in Hubei Province. Its predecessor was the former Hubei Water Conservancy and Hydropower School. Founded in 1953, it was upgraded to Hubei College of Water Conservancy and Electric Power in 1960s, providing specialized education for 12 years. Since its establishment more than 50 years ago, it has trained more than 20,000 professional and technical talents for the country, and many graduates have become the pillars and backbones of the water conservancy industry.

The college has two campuses: East (Lake) and South (Lake). The East Campus is located at the foot of Luojia Mountain in Wuchang, Wuhan, adjacent to Wuhan University. South Campus (main campus) is located on the bank of Nanhu Lake in Wuchang, with beautiful scenery, elegant environment and convenient transportation. The college has an existing campus area of 688.78 mu, with complete facilities such as teaching buildings, libraries, student apartments, canteens and stadiums, with a total construction area of nearly 200,000 square meters. There are more than 500,000 books and materials in the collection, the total assets of teaching and training instruments and equipment reach more than 89 million yuan, there are 38 laboratories and practice factories, and there are more than 40 professional practice bases all over the province. The college is also the designated training center of the Ministry of Water Resources, and one of the national professional skill appraisal authorities in the water conservancy and hydropower industry.

The college mainly recruits high school (secondary vocational) graduates, and currently has more than 7,000 students. There are departments of hydraulic engineering, architectural engineering, electromechanical engineering, electronic information engineering, business administration, basic courses and continuing education. There are nearly 30 water conservancy and hydropower construction projects, hydrology and water resources, water management, water supply and drainage projects, construction engineering technology, municipal engineering technology, engineering supervision, engineering survey, engineering cost and management, computer application technology, electrical engineering and technology, electromechanical integration, applied electronic technology, secretarial, marketing, business English, tourism, computer art design, logistics management, e-commerce, computerized accounting and property management.
