The salary of the Hong Kong Police Force is 59 grades.

The Hong Kong Police Force is one of the six disciplined services in Hong Kong (the other five disciplined services are the Immigration Department, the Correctional Services Department, the Customs and Excise Department, the Fire Services Department and the Security Department) and an important part of the civil service in Hong Kong. Due to the particularity of the profession, the Hong Kong police implement a salary system different from other disciplined forces and civil servants, and the salary of the police is higher than that of other disciplined forces and civil servants.

First, the police have many salary scales. The more ranks, the greater the room for salary promotion and the higher the salary. The salaries of ordinary civil servants in Hongkong are divided into 49 grades, with the minimum wage of 7674 yuan/month (statistics in 2005, the same below) and the maximum wage of 83l50 yuan/month. The salary of the Hong Kong police is divided into 59 grades, with the minimum salary of l3823 yuan/month and the maximum salary of 18 1050 yuan/month. Second, the salary standard of the police at the same rank is higher than that of other disciplined forces and civil servants. For example, compared with other civil servants with the same conditions, the starting salary of a police officer with E-level education in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination is l4670 yuan, that of a general disciplined officer (such as a customs officer) with the same education and rank is13,325 yuan, and that of a general civil servant with the same education and rank is 8,675 yuan. Comparatively speaking, the starting salary of newly recruited police officers is higher than that of other disciplined forces 10. 1% and higher than that of ordinary civil servants by 69. 1%. The main reason why Hong Kong police pay is different from other disciplined services and civil servants lies in its professional characteristics, that is, the working hours of the police profession exceed other occupations, the shift arrangement, standby at any time, great work pressure, great risks and hard work. The Hong Kong SAR Government believes that these professional characteristics of the police are not available to other civil servants and should be reflected in their salaries.
