Ningxia is characterized by abundant light and heat, dryness and little rainfall, and large daily temperature differences, making it fertile soil for cultivating high-quality and high-yielding grapes. Among them, the eastern foot of Helan Mountain in Ningxia has the best conditions, and has become one of the nine unique grape producing areas in the country. The eastern foothills of Helan Mountain are located in the west of the Yinchuan Plain. It is the alluvial plain zone between the Yellow River alluvial plain and the Helan Mountain alluvial fan. The total area is 3.62 million acres, of which 1.2 million acres are suitable for the development of grape production. . It belongs to the mid-temperate semi-arid climate zone, with an annual average temperature of 8.9°C, an active accumulated temperature of 3289°C from April to September, 3029.6 hours of sunshine, and an annual rainfall of 150-200mm. The sand-gravel soil here has excellent air permeability, high soil organic matter content, dryness and little rainfall, and sufficient sunlight. The annual sunshine hours reach 3,000 hours, and the temperature difference between day and night is large. There is a natural barrier of Helan Mountain in the west to resist the cold current, and the Yellow River Diversion Canal crosses it in the east. However, it can meet the water needs of grapes in various stages of growth.

A large amount of survey data shows that this area is better than the Bordeaux region in France in terms of hydrothermal coefficient, temperature, humidity, etc. Moreover, the grapes grown here are pest-free and have the advantages of fully developed aroma, good pigment formation, high sugar content, moderate acid content, high yield, no pollution, and excellent quality. It is a unique green food base.

In 1984, the region’s first high-quality wine grape base of more than 3,000 acres and a modern winery with an annual output of 4,000 tons—Yuquan Winery—were established at Yuquanying Farm in Huangyangtan area. , has produced Xixia brand dry red and dry white wines that meet international standards, and has won praise from domestic and foreign consumers and experts for its superior quality. At present, the company has nearly 10,000 acres of grape base, with an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons.

The Ministry of Agriculture has planned to build a high-quality wine grape planting base in Ningxia. The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region plans to build a high-quality wine grape planting base covering an area of ??more than 100,000 acres and vigorously develop wine production. Wine production companies such as "Dynasty" and "Changyu" have the intention to invest in and build raw material bases in Ningxia. Listed companies such as Yinguangxia and National Chemical Industry have invested in the construction of wine grape bases. Among them, Yinguangxia has a planting area of ??26,000 acres and a production capacity of 15,000 tons. At present, Ningxia has built more than 40,000 acres of high-quality wine grape bases. In April 2003, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the application for product protection of the origin of "Helan Mountain Eastern Foot Wine".
