(The most complete in history) How do fresh graduates apply for non-technical positions in Internet companies?

Just now, I was chatting with many students in a WeChat group I created and talked about how I could help everyone promote the company Weidian.

Many students said, what is Weidian? Is it a micro business? It's a pyramid scheme.

This reminds me of a time ago when I helped everyone recommend in, a picture social company in Hangzhou.

The first reaction of many students is that this is a scam company, why haven’t they heard of it?

If, I ask, classmate, do you plan to enter an Internet company? What is your target company?

They will all say: "bat, Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent"

They will also talk about familiar companies such as Meituan, Dianping, JD.com and Xiaomi.

However, as a student applying for a non-technical position in the Internet industry, do you dare to apply?

Also, classmate, at this level, do you dare to apply for a job?

If you have to divide the positions in Internet companies into two broad categories, they are undoubtedly technical and non-technical.

Technical categories include: various types of programmers (front-end, back-end, ios, android, html5, algorithms, data mining, data analysis, operation and maintenance, testing/basic research), various types of designers (UI ,ue,ued, user research, interaction, visual).

Non-technical positions include: various functional positions (HR, HRBP, finance, assistants, company aunts), product & operation positions, and marketing and business positions.

There are also positions between technical and non-technical: positions set up by each company according to its own business, such as teaching and research, oral teachers.

This article is for non-technical positions.

1. I agree with Zhihu’s slogan: Share your knowledge, experience and insights with the world.

I think that as a fresh graduate who has never been exposed to the Internet and has no Internet internship experience, the best way is to use three aspects as the entry point for learning: knowledge, experience, and insights.

1.1 If you are planning to apply for HR or product operations or marketing and business positions in Internet companies. The first thing is to understand the professional knowledge about the position. For example, what is HR? Never say during the interview: "HR is responsible for collecting resumes, screening resumes, and conducting interviews." This is too general and unprofessional. After understanding the professional concept, development history, development status, and some existing models of the target position, we first have a theoretical understanding of the target position.

1.2 The second thing is to seek some experience needed to apply for the target position or to engage in the target position after entering the company. For example, if you want to apply for a product & operations position, it is not enough to just theoretically focus on efficiency in product operations and learn to: increase revenue, reduce expenditure, and promote activity. You need to know what methods are available to improve efficiency, and what methods are available to increase revenue, reduce expenditure, and promote activity. When and what means to use, discover some interesting product & operation cases.

1.3 Finally, let’s say you are planning to apply for a marketing and business position. After the first two steps, you can look at the sharing of 10 years of work experience by experts currently in corresponding positions in the Internet industry, analysis of existing models and existing conditions, and predictions of future development trends.

The above are very useful whether in interviews or at work.

As for places to learn, I recommend everyone to go to: Everyone is a product manager, Zhihu, Huxiu, 36kr, Geek Park, and vertical forums for job applications. You can join some communication groups to observe and consult.

2. "Practice is the only criterion for testing truth." This sentence has never changed.

2.1 If you have not yet graduated (not a senior or third year graduate student), you have many opportunities. If you want to work in an HR position, you can deal with more different people and learn to observe people's emotions; you can go to an internship in a small company during the winter and summer vacations to get a feel for it; you can take some free open classes. If you are about to graduate, then you can summarize what you have done during college, which is consistent with the essential needs of the position you are about to apply for, and learn to refine it.

For example, when I graduated from undergraduate degree, I applied for a job as a project management engineer in a company. My major has nothing to do with project management. However, I have been a student union member for three years, and I have summarized and refined a lot of experience and theories. Generally speaking, fresh graduates have just entered a company, and I have experience on the basis that they will not create value for the company. This is the advantage.

But whether you are about to graduate or there is still time before graduation, practice is the real truth. Only practice can combine the theory and practice of the first step of learning, and it will not be empty and empty.

2.2 I have always believed that Internet companies favor students with internship experience very highly. As for how current students can seek internships, you can refer to this article: How to transform from traditional industries to the Internet industry? (Especially for fresh graduates)

3. Understand all the conditions of the target company you are about to apply for.

Once at a Vipshop seminar, the speaker asked: Who knows how much Vipshop’s stock price is per share today?

A classmate stood up immediately and spoke.

It shows that he is always paying attention and will naturally be paid attention to by the company.

When I first applied for a job, I would prepare word copies and print them out in advance. It contains the target company's establishment time, development history, interesting stories in the process, company culture, core values, slogan, logo icon, company business, current status, future development, etc.

4. Everything will be successful if it is planned in advance, otherwise it will be ruined.

To prepare everything in advance, you can refer to this article I wrote before: How to defeat 99% of competitors in job hunting? (For fresh graduates)

Currently, the 2016 spring recruitment and intern recruitment are in full swing. I hope that all students who have not yet found their ideal job can succeed immediately. Students looking for internships will also have smooth sailing in their future.

This is my encouragement. Welcome to communicate.
