Chuiyi Li's personal experience.
The Dream of "Family Travel Orchestra"
Chuiyi Li's ancestral home is Xiamen, Fujian, because his mother once taught at the Central Conservatory of Music. He was born in Beijing, but he got a Hong Kong identity, but he grew up in America and now lives in the Netherlands. He is the youngest in the family and has two sisters. He also studied piano and violin since childhood. At first, Chuiyi Li's choice of cello was entirely his parents' fate. He said, "Mom said that the three of us can form a string trio, so that the whole family can take care of each other when we go out to play." However, the Li family's dream of a "family travel orchestra" finally didn't come true-now, my sister has left the music industry, my second sister works in the Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra, and only one person has toured all over the world. Fortunately, in the past two years, his elder sister Li Chuiyin became his agent, and he was accompanied by his family every day during his lonely journey.
Childhood piano practice
Chuiyi Li began to learn piano at the age of 3 and began to practice cello at the age of 9. Perhaps except Mozart, any child who walks into the door of music performance is reluctant to part with it. The same is true of Chuiyi Li, who said that his childhood piano practice was barely carried out, and he was often beaten. Even so, together with his two sisters, at the age of 1 1, he entered the high school attached to Juilliard with a scholarship. 18' s age is coming. The rebellion in adolescence made him realize that music was not his choice. He began to defy his parents' original intention, change the course of life by talking to himself and explore the world outside music. Fortunately, he was admitted to a famous school-Harvard Business School. Julia didn't graduate from the high school attached to Julia. Chuiyi Li went to Boston to study economics alone and never looked back.
"Put down the cello, like a relief, very comfortable, no one will force me to practice again. I hope to do business in the future since I was a child, although I don't know what business to do. " Even so, he didn't break the cello. While studying at Harvard, he still used his spare time to play chamber music with his classmates. "Harvard students are really undiscovered talent. What they learn can't be played with music, but high-quality performers abound. With them, I have not completely lost the' children's work' that I practiced in the past. "
Re-embark on the road of cello performance
After graduating from Harvard, Chuiyi Li naturally came to Wall Street in new york and got a job in a multinational financial consulting company. He made a lot of money, but after five years of ups and downs in the business world, he gradually found that his temperament was out of tune with his surroundings. In our nature, he is convinced that what he loves most and suits him best is the music brought to him by his mother. So he resolutely returned, left the gold collar coat, left Wall Street, and went to Europe to learn from the teacher. He studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and the famous Spanish Conservatory of Music, studied piano skills under the world-famous cellist Lester and Swedish cellist and conductor Hellson respectively, and set foot on the road of cello performance again.
Chuiyi Li said, "At that time, many friends were surprised and said that I starved to death at a concert, but I believe that money can't be brought into the coffin." One or two months before each performance or competition, Chuiyi Li practices cello for about 7 to 8 hours every day. Although it takes a lot of time and energy to practice, Chuiyi Li doesn't feel hard, because at this time, playing the cello has become a big part of his life, which is his own choice.
Talking about the process of studying in Europe, Chuiyi Li said it was difficult at first. In fact, European music has always been "exclusive". Earlier, some people always thought that it was difficult for Asians to master their own classical music culture, which was understandable. We can't expect too many blond foreigners to become masters of folk music performances. "But this view, in 2 1 century, is quietly changing. With the rise of the younger generation of musicians in China, the strength of China musicians is making more and more Westerners sit up and take notice. They are even afraid that more China people will' invade' their long-standing traditional culture. "
Participate in the competition and win prizes.
Chuiyi Li gave an example with a smile, saying that it was cruel to participate in the international Yanigolo cello competition in 2004, and a large number of talented European rookies were eliminated, some from the host Croatian; Some come from Russia, Germany and other places and are deeply rooted; There are also many talented young people of Jewish descent. On the day of the final, the unsuccessful players collectively watched his performance. They conspired to play practical jokes while he was playing, and made abnormal noises under the stage to distract him, so as to help another European opponent win. Later, even the judges couldn't bear such a prank. It was in such a bad environment that he suddenly won the championship from the Europeans. ...
Talking about all kinds of competitions, Chuiyi Li said that many people think they are competitive, just like sports competitions. In fact, the contrast there is not technology or music at all. Because of these, the contestants are very strong, and they can all get full marks, and they can hardly see the difference. Finally, the competition is whether the music you play can impress the judges present. "Fortunately, my performance can impress the judges almost every time," Chuiyi Li said modestly.
As Chuiyi Li said, it is never easy to find one's place on the European stage, and making records is one of the gestures. After winning the competition that year, Chuiyi Li was immediately released by EMI Records and released his first record of the same name. Chuiyi Li said that EMI was in a hurry and wanted to help him release this record as soon as possible. Producers are also looking for actors. With the increase of popularity, the purpose of the first album is to attract more different audiences, so in addition to Brahms' sonata in D major, the first album also includes "Wild Bees Flying" full of dazzling skills and the beautiful Finnish tango. However, it is such a relatively "popular" record that has successfully reached the classical music charts. STRAD, an international authoritative magazine, gave a high evaluation to this album. The magazine thinks that Chuiyi Li's performance is very comprehensive, and he can easily interpret difficult works. In Brahms' sonatas, his profound emotion and lyrical tone can perfectly match the material. "
