Wuhan University’s counselor recruitment announcement has sparked heated debate. Is it a waste of talent for doctoral students to become counselors?

In our impression, highly educated people should be engaged in high-level jobs. The recruitment of counselors requires a doctorate degree. This recruitment requirement has aroused heated discussion among many people. I think it’s not a sign of a doctoral student to be a counselor. There are many doctoral students nowadays, but this does not mean that all doctoral students are truly talented.

In the past, people thought that after graduating from undergraduates, they should sit in an office with the air conditioner blowing and receive a high salary. But now that there are so many undergraduates, how many of them can find their ideal job?

Many undergraduates are unemployed after graduation, and many have been looking for a job for a year without finding a satisfactory one. Therefore, many undergraduates will do some ordinary jobs, such as working as quality inspectors in factories, or setting up stalls to sell pork.

Some people think that undergraduates who engage in these jobs are just reading in vain, so they sneer at undergraduates engaging in such jobs.

The same is true for doctoral students, who are no longer as scarce as they used to be. Doctoral students do not necessarily have to engage in high-level jobs. Some doctoral students only have academic qualifications. They have no particularly outstanding abilities. If they are asked to do other things, they will not be able to do it. Therefore, doctoral students serve as counselors. It's not a sign of humiliation. Talents with high academic qualifications can also engage in some ordinary jobs.

People with low education cannot engage in higher-demand jobs, but people with higher education can engage in more jobs, and their choices are wider. Doctoral students can also work from some of the more general jobs. After doctoral students become counselors, they can use the knowledge they have learned to perform their jobs better.

Ph.D. students have learned more knowledge, their minds will be more open-minded, it is easier to educate others, and they can be more adaptable to this job. They have been studying on campus for a long time, and their thoughts will be simpler. Counselors face students, they know them better and can communicate better with them. So there's nothing wrong with doing this job, it's not overkill.
