Shan Zhi Social Welfare Foundation: When my mother is a teacher, kindergarten is like home.
At the end of summer, the Maliguang tribe in Houshan, Jianshi Township, Hsinchu County has become chilly. Five children are listening to Shamei, the director of Maliguang Child Care Center, which is bilingual in ethnic and Chinese. Director Wu tells the story of the picture book in the Atayal mother tongue. Shamei and Grandma's Support Center for Kitchen Workers take care of six Atayal children under the age of four.
The declining birth rate and double-income families have affected the families of Houshan tribe. Five of the six children grew up in different generations. Most of the young parents work in an electronics factory in Zhudong town, which is an hour and a half drive away, or work as a mold worker and come back once a week.
Shamei said that she didn't read much, and she felt that she was not qualified to teach children. Later, she received training from the Supreme Social Welfare Foundation and obtained a nanny license. Every year, she regularly attends Montessori and Children's Corner classes. Now she is full of confidence.
Shan Zhi is one of the few social welfare institutions in China that deeply cultivate indigenous tribes. In 2004, Typhoon Aili hit Jianshi Township, which was dominated by Atayal people. Shan Zhi initially only helped with emergency rescue. Later, it was found that the young parents of the tribe had to go down to work to make a living, and the family function was weakened. When the children on the mountain grow up, they go down to study, which leads to some problems such as lack of self-confidence, lack of learning ability and bad cultural adaptation.
Seeing the source of the problem, Shan Zhi wanted to pull the child up from the root, so he chose four primary schools in Yufeng Village and Xiuluan Village, a remote houshan tribe in Jianshi Township. After more than ten years of casing service, Shan Zhi has done three unique hometown services:
1. From child care to family: Shan Zhi once set up four child care centers in tribes to provide counseling and consultation for primary and secondary school students, and there is also a student talent training program to train local people to become kindergarten teachers and recognized auxiliary teachers.
"The Baby Photography Center not only wants to take care of children, but also adults," said He, the social worker director of Hsinchu Workstation in Shan Zhi. This is also the central idea of the best service: not only helping children, but also helping families. Because it is difficult for young parents to have a stable income in mountainous areas, Shan Zhi did not choose an easier "subsidy", but embarked on the troublesome road of creating job opportunities in the tribe. Because if parents stay in the tribe and the family is complete, the children will grow up steadily.
Second, enhance the physical fitness and self-confidence of children in hometown: In the process of children's growth, instilling love and companionship and building self-confidence can enhance children's resilience in the face of difficulties.
