1August 1997, Meishan area was formally established. For the gap of higher education in the new district after the adjustment of administrative divisions, the prefectural party committee, administrative office and regional education commission have made the decision to give priority to the development of radio and television universities. After one year's preparation, Meishan Radio and TV University was formally established with the approval of Sichuan Education Commission from June 5 to February 6, 1998. The newly established Meishan Radio and TV University runs a school in Meishan Normal School and implements a multi-brand team management system. With the continuous development of education in Meishan, with the approval of the Sichuan provincial government, the former Meishan Normal School and the former Meishan Agricultural School merged to form Meishan Vocational and Technical College in 2002.
