Founded in July 1952, the Military Orchestra is the only large-scale wind music performance group in China, which belongs to the General Political Department of China People's Liberation Army.

Since its establishment, the Military Orchestra has completed more than 5,000 ceremonial tasks, welcomed 100 heads of state, government and military delegations from more than one country, and undertaken and completed the music performance tasks of national party congresses, the National People's Congress, Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and other national celebrations and important meetings. Every year, the military orchestra organizes personnel to go deep into the army to express their condolences to the grassroots officers and soldiers, and tour all over the country. As an important base of wind music art in China, military orchestras often organize experts to coach nearly 100 wind bands in the whole army, which plays an important role in popularizing and improving the level of wind music art in China. In recent years, military orchestras have also been invited to Japan, Thailand, France, Finland, Singapore, Italy, the Netherlands and other countries as well as Hong Kong and Macao to participate in international military music competitions and perform abroad.

The military orchestra pursues nationalization, specialization and popularization in art, and is unique with its excellent performance, diverse forms, fresh style, elegant and popular appreciation and majestic momentum. The performance forms include: ensemble, ensemble and ensemble of different scales and forms, solo of various wind instruments, solo and duet of vocal music, marching in procession and rap performance art, etc. In the long-term artistic practice, he has created and performed a large number of music works loved by the audience, provided a large number of music programs for radio stations, television stations and audio-visual companies, recorded and produced more than 100 kinds of music records and tapes, and published hundreds of wind music scores and monographs.
