Hospital History of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital

The Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture National Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital was founded in 1986. The hospital’s predecessor was the Jishou Town United Clinic built in 1954. In 1958, it was changed to Jishou County Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. In 1969, it was decentralized and changed to Jishou. The Town Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine was restored to the Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1982 and renamed Jishou Municipal Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital for Nationalities in 1984. In August 1986, the Jishou City Ethnic Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital was placed under state management, and the institution was named "Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture Ethnic Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital."; in the same year, the state Ethnic Medicine Research Institute was merged into the newly established Prefectural Ethnic Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. After 17 years of hard work, the hospital has now developed into a hospital with complete infrastructure, advanced medical equipment, strong technical force, and scientific management system. It integrates traditional Chinese medicine, Western medicine, and ethnic medicine, and integrates medical care, prevention, rehabilitation, scientific research, and teaching. It is a second-class traditional Chinese medicine hospital and a national baby-friendly hospital. It is one of the medical centers for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine in the border areas of Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing and Qianzhou provinces.
