Our driver happened to live in the village where we were going. On the bus, we asked him about the irrigation situation in some places.

After arriving at the destination, instructor xx first led us to observe the drainage ditch and ridge of paddy field. Through observation, we found that almost all of them are flood irrigation mode. The drainage ditch is shallow and has a soil bottom. Teacher Hao introduced us to the principle of paddy field irrigation and drainage in hilly areas, and pointed out the shortcomings of soil bottom drainage ditch, such as easy collapse, waste of water and easy blockage. After leaving the paddy field, we began to interview the farmers in the village.

The focus of the interview was irrigation and drainage. Through interviews with farmers, we learned the general situation of local irrigation. The village mainly grows rice, rape and wheat, including japonica rice and hybrid rice. Irrigation water comes from ponds and reservoirs. There are more than a dozen ponds and two reservoirs in this area. The way to get water for irrigation is to pump the water from the pond or reservoir into the canal and lead it to the fields of each household through the canal. This irrigation method is simple in operation and low in labor consumption. The disadvantage is that it consumes a lot of water and wastes too much water. Moreover, the irrigation here is for those who need water, for those who pump water, and for each family to irrigate separately. There is no uniformity in time, so the waste of water is even greater. Imagine if a family wanted to irrigate, they would lift a water pump (2.5~4 inches) and put it into a pond dam to pump water. The water will reach the family all the way along the dirt canal. Although there are many farmland along the way, at this time, the family may not have been irrigated or have finished irrigation, so the water will only flow for this family, and every time it flows in the canal, it will be wasted by infiltration and evaporation. Moreover, the drainage ditch is shallow, which is beneficial to irrigation, but it will be difficult to drain water in the current heavy rain. On the one hand, there will be no reduction in production, on the other hand, fertilizers and pesticides in the fields will also flow into Qinhuai River, causing environmental pollution.

Hospitality farmers invited us to dinner and took us to xx Reservoir. We found many vegetable fields near the reservoir. The main crops are water spinach and a small amount of sweet potatoes. According to the teacher, water spinach is only used in places with a lot of water, because it consumes a lot of water. The irrigation here is simple artificial irrigation, which takes water directly from the reservoir.

We found grandpa Cheng, the reservoir manager, and his good helper, the big German shepherd bear. He showed us around the reservoir and we didn't know until we walked. It turns out that xx Reservoir is so big, with a water surface area of more than 70 mu, and it takes nearly two hours to walk around. He told us that when developing cash crops in xx village, he also raised flowers and tried sprinkler irrigation, but due to technical and economic problems, he still failed. Sprinkler irrigation is labor-saving and can irrigate accurately, but the initial input cost and electricity fee are very high, so it can only be used for planting cash crops.

At 2 o'clock in the afternoon, with the help of Grandpa Cheng, we came to the village committee of xx community, and Deputy Director Hu gave us a detailed introduction to the situation of xx community. * * * There are 27 residents' groups with an area of 9.0 1 km2, with 123 1 household and a population of 30 13, including male 1468 and female 1545.

There are more than 50 hills and slopes in the community, which is a real hilly area. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south, high in the west and low in the east, with an average elevation of 45 meters. A dam, about 2.5 kilometers long, extends from the spillway of Fengpofen Reservoir to the southeast of Downey Formation in Zhixia Hui Community.

The cultivated land area of the whole community is 6824 mu, including 3763 mu of paddy field, 306 1 mu of dry land and 5000 mu of forest land. The water source here is difficult, it is prone to drought and the agricultural production level is low. 1958, Dongshan commune built a reservoir in Fengpofen, and the new pumping water was from Zhangjia Power Station to Tantang Power Station to Dayaotang Power Station, and from Dayaotang Power Station to Deng Jia. Later, Xintang Reservoir, Tanggang Reservoir and Shentang Reservoir were built behind Shima (Village) Group, xx Reservoir, Changtang Reservoir, Wangjiatang Reservoir and Geng Jia Reservoir were built in xx and Gaotang, and two sets of pumping stations were built in Fengpofen Reservoir, which basically solved the difficulty of water shortage and ensured the bumper harvest in the drought year.

The agricultural structure has also undergone major adjustments. Rice, rape, wheat and other crops will no longer be planted, but seedlings, flowers, greenhouse vegetables, pig breeding, intensive fish ponds and tea planting will be adjusted. Residents have created economic income sources through various channels.

He also talked about some shortcomings of this irrigation method, because the water source is in a higher place, which is seriously wasted in the process of water delivery, and will cause some damage to the soil, such as slopes. In addition, some snakes and shrimps in the river caused inevitable and hard-to-find injuries to the river when digging holes. In severe cases, rivers will collapse, resulting in a lot of waste of water resources. Moreover, the speed of this irrigation method is not very good. In case of drought, it takes 7- 10 days to introduce water from Qinhuai River into farmland, which usually takes time. It has a great influence on grasping the best irrigation period. The best development direction is to contract individual farmland and manage irrigation in a large area in a unified way, so as to save time, effort and money. As far as irrigation is concerned, it is very uniform and can greatly reduce the waste of water.

Then we came to Fengbofen Reservoir, the largest reservoir in xx mentioned by Secretary xx.

The cloudy sky seems to have the flavor of Jiangnan. This Jiangnan-style sky, printed in the beautiful Gaotang Reservoir, is the most harmonious scenery in Jiangnan. Gray ducks, swinging leisurely on the long water surface, gently paddling long waves; The long waves push the long duckling, gently rippling in the gentle beauty of this beautiful south of the Yangtze River. In the reservoir, we saw an ancient sluice with three gates, which is more traditional. This is the outlet of the reservoir, and the cement channel is downward. The channel is very smooth and flows to the farmland below. Down the river, we saw farmers working in the fields.

We have gained a lot from this trip to xx community. In terms of knowledge, we learned a lot from local farmers about irrigation, drainage, canal construction, sluice pumps and so on.
