Although many people think that teaching is a nine-to-three job, most teachers work well in their spare time, including weekends. It is not uncommon to work 50 or 60 hours a week without extra financial compensation. In addition, many teachers use their salaries to buy things for their students and classrooms, and (in Canada) these purchases are not tax deductible.
