What's the difference between ABS, PVC, PP, PS and PET?

ABS is a polymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene.

ABS performance: density 1.06, processing temperature 2 10-275, mold temperature 50-90, shrinkage 0.4%-0.9%, melting point 175, general ratio A:B:C=20:30:50.

Advantages: Hardness, easy processing, stable product size, good surface gloss, easy dyeing, heat resistance, low temperature resistance, flame retardancy, impact resistance, surface spraying, electroplating, welding, hot pressing, bonding and other secondary processing, non-toxic and tasteless.

Disadvantages: poor solvent resistance, low dielectric strength and low elongation.

Uses: Widely used in machinery, automobiles, electronic appliances, instruments, textiles, construction and other industrial fields. It is a widely used thermoplastic engineering plastic.

PVC is polyvinyl chloride

PVC properties: density 1.38, processing temperature 180-200 degrees, mold temperature 20-50 degrees, shrinkage rate 0.6- 1.5%, Vicat softening temperature 70 degrees.

Advantages: good dimensional stability, low cost, good weather resistance, non-flammability, high strength, adding different proportions of plasticizers, and easy adjustment of hardness.

Disadvantages: poor chemical resistance and temperature resistance, and hydrogen chloride will be produced after thermal decomposition.

Uses: Used for pipes and fittings, doors and windows, packaging sheets, with high strength and hardness, and suitable for making sheets, wire and cable insulation layers, seals, etc. It can also make very soft products, such as films, sheets, wires and cables, floors, synthetic leather, paints and other consumer goods.

PP is polypropylene.

Properties of PP: density 0.9 15, processing temperature 250-270, mold temperature 40-80, shrinkage 1.5-2.5%.

Advantages: easy dyeing, good moisture resistance, chemical resistance and impact resistance, high hinge characteristics.

Disadvantages: it is not easy to extrude complex profiles, the product has poor cold resistance and low low-temperature impact strength; The product is easy to be aged by light, heat and oxygen in use, and easy to be decomposed by ultraviolet rays; Chromatic aberration; Flammable; Poor toughness, high static electricity, poor dyeability, printability and adhesion.

Application: automobile industry (mainly using PP containing metal additives: mudguards, ventilation pipes, fans, etc. ), instruments (dishwasher door gasket, dryer ventilation pipe, washing machine frame and cover, refrigerator door gasket, etc. ), daily consumer goods (lawn and gardening equipment such as lawn mowers, sprinklers, etc. ).

PS is polystyrene.

PS performance: density 1.05, molding temperature 170-250, mold temperature 30-60, shrinkage 0.6-0.8%. It is a colorless and transparent glass-like plastic with a glass transition temperature higher than 100℃, such as disposable foam lunch boxes.

Advantages: excellent electrical insulation, colorless and transparent, coloring water resistance and good chemical stability.

Disadvantages: general strength, fragile, easy to produce stress, not resistant to solvents such as benzene and gasoline.

Uses: Suitable for making insulating transparent parts, decorative parts and parts of chemical instruments and optical instruments, and producing packaging containers, daily necessities and electronic/electrical appliances.

PET is polyethylene terephthalate.

Properties of PET: density: 1.38, shrinkage: 1.0- 1.55%, processing temperature: 225~275℃, mold temperature: 40~60℃.

Advantages: good dimensional stability; Excellent mechanical properties; Small potential; Good electrical characteristics; Excellent weather resistance; Resistant to organic solvents, oils and weak acids; Good gas barrier and water resistance; Self-extinguishing.

Disadvantages: but poor corona resistance; Printing ink is not good enough; Soak in heat-resistant water; Alkali intolerance

Usage: It is often used for product labels that require high water resistance, oil resistance, chemical resistance and high temperature resistance, and is used for food packaging, mineral water bottles, carbonated beverage bottles and other toiletries, cosmetics, various electrical appliances and mechanical products.
