What is the situation of college students in the current society?

In recent years, with the continuous expansion of the scale of higher education, there is gender inequality in the process of college students' employment, and the employment difficulty of female college students has attracted more and more attention from all walks of life. According to statistics, the number of college graduates will reach 3.38 million in 2005, of which 44% are women. In 2004, there were 2.8 million college graduates, 800,000 of whom could not find jobs in time, and a considerable number of them were female college students. There is also a problem of difficult employment for female college students in our city. According to the survey of women's federations in Fuyu County, gannan county County, Keshan County and Angangxi District on the employment situation of female college students, a considerable number of female college students in our city have encountered gender discrimination in the process of job hunting. In 2004, Keshan County distributed a total of 106 teachers college graduates, and before 2006, there were 5438+0 graduates, including 88 female college students, and there was no gender inequality. But in other aspects, the signing rate of girls is obviously 8 percentage points lower than that of boys. The latest survey by the Women's Federation of Angangxi District on the employment situation of female college students shows that the salary paid by employers to male college students is higher than that of female college students 1 1%, and some units expressly stipulate that only men are accepted, or restrict the employment of female college students by giving priority to men, such as limiting the ratio of men to women, raising the employment standards of female college students, and restricting majors. The survey concludes that female college students do face more difficulties in employment than male college students. The research report of Fuyu County Women's Federation shows that the employment situation of undergraduate graduates in a university in 2002 found that the employment quality of female college students is also lower than that of male college students, and it is difficult to implement the policy of "equal pay for equal work". Employers arrange jobs for female college graduates with different majors, low level and low income, which to some extent covers up the illusion that the actual employment rate gap between male and female students is not too big. According to the statistics of the Municipal Women's Federation, in 2005, nearly 70% of the graduates who did not implement the unit were girls, and many female college graduates were forced to continue their postgraduate studies or even doctoral studies because they could not find jobs in time, which caused a huge waste of social resources; Among the girls who have implemented the unit, many people have more difficult job hunting experience than boys, and many people are forced to lower their job hunting standards. Female college graduates are highly educated workers, but they are relatively at a disadvantage in the labor market competition. This is not an isolated accidental phenomenon, but the result of a variety of reasons.

1. Under the background of severe employment situation in China, the reality of oversupply in the labor market provides conditions for employers to artificially raise the employment threshold and set gender restrictions. With the acceleration of higher education from "elite education" to "mass education", college students are no longer scarce resources. Since 2002, more than 1 10,000 college graduates have been temporarily unable to find jobs every year. It is in this context that the employment situation of female college students is more severe.

Second, the current labor market supervision and management is weak, especially in the field of private small and medium-sized enterprises and informal employment. The departments concerned, such as industry and commerce, taxation, civil affairs, labor and social security, health, urban management and so on, lack coordination and cooperation, and the problems of repeated management and inadequate supervision coexist, especially the weak supervision of foreign-funded and private small and medium-sized enterprises, which makes women's employment rights and labor rights violated and easy to lose their jobs.

Third, the slow progress of the maternity protection system has increased the labor cost of enterprises to a certain extent, which has become a major obstacle to women's equal employment. Under the labor market mechanism, the special physiological phenomena of female employees and reproductive work (maternity, housework and home care) objectively caused the increase of enterprise costs. For example, the maternity expenses and paid maternity leave of female employees have increased the economic burden of the enterprises where they work, which has led enterprises to be unwilling to accept female college students.

Fourth, the implementation of laws and regulations is not in place, which affects the employment of female college students. In the investigation, we found that a considerable number of students think that the current laws on the protection of women's rights and interests in China are not perfect. In fact, a series of laws and regulations have been promulgated to protect women's rights and interests. In particular, the revised Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests contains many special provisions on the protection of women's rights and interests in labor and social security, such as "not refusing to hire women or raising the employment standards for women on the grounds of sex" and "no unit shall reduce the wages or dismiss female employees because of marriage, pregnancy, maternity leave and breastfeeding". Therefore, it is not so much that the laws and regulations are imperfect, but that people's implementation of laws and regulations is not in place, thus affecting the employment of female college students.

Fifth, the traditional gender concept still has an impact on the labor market. Some employers have a wrong understanding of women's ability, and think that the practical ability of female college students is not as good as that of boys, which aggravates women's disadvantage in employment competition.

To sum up, the employment of female college students is a very serious problem, so the whole society should care about and pay attention to this problem and strive to create a good and harmonious social environment for the employment of female college students. We make the following suggestions:

First, as a female college student, we should fully understand ourselves and enhance our self-confidence. In the process of employment, female college students should regard setbacks as opportunities to exercise their will and enhance their ability. We should overcome the bad psychological state of inferiority and timidity; Establish self-confidence and fully understand your own advantages; Seize the opportunity and choose the right job. Compared with boys, female college students have the following advantages: 1. Women's thinking ability in images and the meticulous and comprehensive degree of thinking are stronger than men's; 2. Women's gentleness and understanding give them an advantage in communication skills; 3. Women's ability to use language vocabulary is stronger than men's.

Second, to solve the employment problem of female college students, we must reduce the cost of recruiting female employees in enterprises, reform the maternity protection system that was originally undertaken by enterprises, and separate the compensation of female reproductive value from enterprises, which should be borne and compensated by society. Article 29 of the revised Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests clearly stipulates that "the state implements the maternity insurance system and establishes and improves other maternity-related security systems". The maternity insurance system in our city has just started, and many aspects need to be developed and improved. Only by establishing unified and independent maternity insurance types and setting up specialized institutions to manage and supervise the operation of maternity insurance funds can the social security of maternity be truly realized. Through the implementation of maternity insurance, the employer's evaluation of men's and women's labor ability and employment standards are more reasonable, which eliminates their worries about using female labor to raise employment costs and provides a prerequisite for realizing the equal employment rights of female college students.

Third, improve the employment competitiveness of female college students. Colleges and universities should be market-oriented in discipline planning, specialty setting and curriculum setting, and fully consider the characteristics of female education and social needs. At the same time, female college students should strengthen the cultivation of their own quality and ability, change the old concept of employment, establish a new scientific concept of job selection, and combine personal wishes with national needs and employment reality.

Fourth, strengthen legislation and law enforcement supervision, and safeguard the equal employment rights of female college students by legal means. It is necessary to refine the provisions on eliminating gender discrimination in employment in laws such as the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests and the Labor Law, formulate specific implementation rules and publicize them widely; Formulate preferential policies to encourage female college students' employment and give appropriate help to female college students whose employment is frustrated; Strengthen the supervision and management of the labor market, promptly correct and investigate discrimination and illegal acts against female college students' employment, and provide necessary legal aid for female college students' equal employment.
