Basic information of mussels

Chinese name Xi Shizhen

Chinese is commonly known as mussel, imperial concubine mussel and Zhanggang mussel.

Latin scientific name Mactra Antiquata (Bingler1802);

Sea mussels are a specialty of Hunan Town, Changle, Fujian Province. The main producing area is in the sea area of Hunan Town, Changle. Because there are already vendors selling in Zhanggang, it is also called mussel in Zhanggang.

According to legend, during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Gou Jian, the King of Yue, cheated the King of Wu with a "honey trap" and presented the stone sacrifice to the King of Wu. After the death of Wu, Gou Jian's wife always felt that she was not as beautiful as her, so she was jealous and resentful. One day, she finally killed him. She sent someone to cheat Shi out, tied him up with stones and sank into the sea. Since then, a kind of mussel similar to human tongue has grown on coastal beaches, and people call it Xi Shi Tongue.
